Before Spartacus struck down his first opponent in the arena, there were many gladiators who passed though the gates onto the sand. "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," the highly anticipated prequel to Starz' hit series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," tells the story of the original Champion of the House of Batiatus: Gannicus (Dustin Clare) in a more ruthless time before Spartacus' arrival where honor was just finding it's way into the arena.

So they had to scrap the entire original series and start over with a prequel because of the dudes cancer? Why couldn't they just replace his character w/a new actor?

this is a side story (prequel)till they resume the main story

Initially the cancer was detected early so they presumed he would eventually get better after treatment. Until he fully recovered they were going to explore the idea of a prequel and then resume the series from where it ended once Andy returned. From reading the report Benq posted his cancer seems to be back thus the reason why they are looking for a new actor to replace him now.
 
Men i can't wait for this series to get going, is the only one that i have seen in the last 3 years

They went with the prequel when Andy Whitfield was first diagnosed with Cancer, they thought he would only be out for a year. But when it went away and came back, then they went ahead with replacing him.

I dunno man.. with Andy Whitfield and John Hannah out for season 2.. that's like 75% of the heart and soul of the series, I dunno how interesting it'll be now. :smh: It would've been find without one, but both? :smh:

the first 2 episodes of the show where boring with only Andy Whitfield as spartacus before he got to the house


the show only got good when they introduced the house characters in the camp or whatever


the show will be ok with a new actor playing spartacus
 
might be as good or better than spartacus season 1 :dance:

to me the most boring thing about spartacus was spartacus himself,look at the first 2 episodes how boring they was


the show only got good when they introduce everybody else at the house[Drama}


this new series has everybody from that house except him

Batty Artist with them funny ass phrases and Lucy Lawless naked= a winner in my book. I def don't wanna see some new Jack as Spartacus though. Hopefully Andy gets better

The show is centered around the house and fighting, Spartacus is just a small part.

I just hope they don't pick a little small skinny dude for Spartacus.

Oh indeed everything you say i completely agree with i was referring from more of a creative writing standpoint, thats what made this show so amazing. I'm fearful their going to be pressing and consequently the writing turns out to not be as original and therefore good as the previous season

well they had to introduce spartacus and give us his backstory. Im glad they showed us instead of doing flashbacks
