Ok, I like to try things at least once, (I'm up for pretty much anything at least once), but I love food. I like trying new things and going to different types of restaurants- you get the idea. So I found this neet little Asian grocer near me that sells these huge fruits:

You might have heard people talking about these things on television, like Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern if you watch the travel channel. The durian is a south Asian, (mostly I want to guess), fruit that is very sweet and can be yellow to red like on the inside. These things are about the width of a basketball but about a foot to a foot and a half tall. Still look like the spikes are whipped meringue.

Anyway, while at this store one of my tasks was to pick up some wafer cookies, vanilla flavor for someone. I decided to get the durian flavor along with the vanilla ones just to see if they would eat it, (and to see if the fruit was as good as people say they are). Now if you DO watch the travel channel like that then you would know a lot proclaim for the durian's sweetness the smell is unbearable.

THEY ARE RIGHT.

The cookies stunk to high heaven and the smell permeates in my kitchen still, (it's been 24 hours). The cookies don't taste bad but they do have an aftertaste which I want to attribute to the wafer, not the cookie. But upon opening the package the smell is enough to knock you dead. If the wafer is any indication of the stinkiness/sweetness of the actual fruit, (not sure if the actual fruit was used in the cookie), it might be something to try for the adventurous. And by adventurous I mean those no afraid of going to the park with a sword to break open a fruit that would scare muggers just because you want a sucrose fix.

Don't want to scare you on trying something different but I even scared myself with this one.
What food from the norm you've tried that you will never touch again?

I couldn't fuck with that... :smh::smh:

Smell is part of the whole eating process. Aromas add to the full experience. Everyone knows taste works in conjunction with smell...

I was praying it would TASTE like the durian- I was shock when I found out it SMELLED like it too :puke:. I was curious to try this sweet foreign fruit but it backfired big time. If you got a clothespin and a strong drink, go for it. The cookies only a dollar. :rolleyes:
