Something black folks need to see...

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

getting rid of churches? Black people rid of Jesus? thats hard... it took me literally years to realize the game, even came close to seminary... naw, that drug is too strong... I just hope that it makes them a better person and suffice with it, thats all I want... hold no truck with pastors or ministers... except mom in law but she is cool with me.

You separate a people from their gods and you separate them from themselves. Our gods were replaced and look how far we've fallen.

exactly, there is strength in that... there is power in that, and there is knowledge in that. We can't see it because our parents didn't have it, so its no importance to us.

A thousand? that is beautiful there, spoke to any elders? anything they were able to tell you?

My iyaorisha was 85 years old. She could trace back her line to about 600 years. She trained me in iwapele.

I got as far as Ireland for my namesake... can't find anything from which my family came from... bastards... they avoided American chattel slavery, but hit the Caribbean afterwards and traded / purchased there, then central America, then here...

iwapele? that is wonderful... you completed? go to any temples? I am interested, educate me

Bump!!! I've got some catching up to do, but let's keep this discussion going. Thanks to all who have contributed so far...

Most people (black, white or Asian) can't trace their roots back further than two or three generations (nor much care to). Black folks WAY overrate the idea of going back a thousand years. Just tracing your family back as far as slavery days is a HUGE achievement, and should be enough. Most WHITES have never gone anywhere near that far back.

But why not try? Why not, as a black man, woman, or child try to see how far back you can trace your roots? Sure most other people don't put a great deal of effort in to tracing theyir roots, but if nothing else they can tell you when, where, and why their people left the old country for the US. The so called "African American" is the only person in the US who cannot do that in most cases. As a black man, I know some of my family's roots (on either side) from here in America, but I have no knowledge of anything outside of here. Some of that is on me for not investigating it, but the overall point is that there are millions of us who can say the same thing. Even those who tried are usually limited in how far back they can go. As LI said, when she was in Africa she met people who knew up to 1,000 years of their (family) own history. I think we was black people need to stop looking at what hasn't happened yet as a limit of what could happen. It's really amazing what one person can stop them self from doing in life. Now apply that to an entire group of folks. We are holding ourselves back more than anyone else is. It's time to stop that and piece this thing together so the next few generations can have a better existence...

talk dammit...

what ideas do you have Mike?

lol fare enough

HAAAA YEAH! 5 kids! The people we stayed with in Afrika each elder mentored schooled - taught 5 kids.

I agree with the FUBU idea as well. We need separation from the yt way, We need to teach our own children. We need to do business with ourselves. I was just telling someone the other day most of the people i do business with 95% black. A few asians, a few latin.

There was a grocery in our neighborhood. Some people got together and bought the owner out. Now it's owned by black people. If we could just get rid of the churches mannnnnnnnnnn woo! Perfection.

:yes::yes:
we need to start doin that for all these stores in the hood

actually many asian people can trace there histories back thousands of years in the instances where someone didnt try to destroy their connection to their past

as for white folks their history is filled with lies, half truths, murder and thievery, who would wanna do to much remembering of that
besides following behind other peoples fucked up behaviors hasnt been doing us any good so why continue

with a generation being between a score plus 5 or basically between 20-25 [depending on tradition, America its 21 for age of adulthood due to lack of traditional rite of passage], you are saying people are satisfied only knowing the history of a grandparent? That's American thinking dude... immigrants come from their cultures and bring their history with them... I love asking people the origin of their last names, I find through my own journey that people are able to tell you way more... Americans like myself who were forced to be Americans alone and not cherish my cultural background will know the heritage origin, but nothing else about it...

Why would an American White need it? Country is still young and all of them were thieving murdering illiterates which need to fabricate history [ask an Indian about thanksgiving], many suffer from the same cognitive dissonance because they will say 'it was my ancestors who did it, not me' so they will discuss it .... generalization was not meant for all of course, but some are rather uncomfortable speaking with a black person about it.

that connection is yours, why wouldn't you want something which was taken from you?

Man, she can do that for sure.

I disagree with the importance of it. And just because caucazoids do not do it is supposed to mean what exactly?

It means that BLACKS aren't in any worse shape in terms of knowing their ancestry than most anyone else. That's what. The self-pity party is tiresome. Black folks have enough trouble keeping track of their random kids running around TODAY, never mind worrying about Africa. As usual, the priorities are all fucked up.

Blunt did you watch the video? Not even trying to be funny. If you did cool. Speak on it based on what you heard Dr. Joy say about America owning up to slavery and how black folks have been affected by it in terms of our shying away from talking about it and analyzing its presence in our current condition. If you didn't watch it, please do. Then after watching it, come back and talk about those things and anything else that you feel should be discussed. And this is not just something I'm saying to Blunt. If you didn't watch this video, but have commented on it, take the time to watch it. Then, come back and tell us what you think of what you saw and heard within it.

Who wants pity? Knowledge is power, all knowledge is power, and since they tried to steal your knowledge, I want it restored. Fuck pity, I would rather have justice under natural law but that will never happen, so I settle for truth.

Yes i am completed, no temple is required. I am myself a confirmed Santeras. I have a shrine to my ancestors, which is all that's needed for us.

It's all that was EVER needed. You don't need a billion dollar mega church. You don't need a pastor sitting there telling you what money to give, and how to behave.

We guided ourselves for centuries with the knowledge of our spiritual ancestors and the spirits of the world. And the orishas and the santeras guided their families spiritually for ages. They HELPED people. They didn't offer false promises of the after life in kingdoms of gold. They didn't say anything about weird vengeful god who loved you so much but if you didn't bown down and castrate yourself before it, it would hate you but love you....

It's a must that you love yourself in our belief. It's a must that you love your family. You put your family ahead of yourself. You put the needs of the many ahead of yourself. Without them then YOU yourself are nothing.

Ok questions... in the case of lacking knowledge of family roots or knowing which is your family spirits... how can one commune...

Second question and it sounds weird.... define family... blood relation or your formed one?

There's different types of spirits to communicate with. If you think about it from a science aspect sort of it's all different types of energy right? We know this and we acknowledge it. Our ancestors knew these things and this information was lost over time.

You know why.

They believe it to be like realms. Those realms i like to think are just wavelengths. We know that we all vibrate on different harmonic wavelengths. That's a scientific fact. The spirit realms just exist on different harmonic wavelengths.

Our spirits are in close frequency with the spirit world. And that's how some of us are able to communicate. Sometimes they listen. Sometimes they're just waiting to be called.

Everything has an energy(spirit) So everything can be called upon. Your ancestors, loved ones. Just call out to them. Sometimes there's certain rituals that are done, but it's not anything other than preparing your physical for the communication with the spiritual.

If you're really interested in finding your spirit kin, then try to find them yourself. Ask for them. Speak to them. If you don't get any feelings, then find yourself a shaman who can help you. That's what they're there for.

My blood family is my family but my husbands family who took me into theirs is my "FAMILY". My wife's family, those who have accepted me. When i think of family i think of a shared connecting energy. Love to me is a an actual energy source.

The problem is getting people to join up with you. You have to many people like on this board who i can't think of their names right now. Who don't believe in us as a people. They don't want to be with us as a people. You've got too many people who want to know what's in it for them...SHORT TERM. They don't think of the long game.

You've got to many people who're just afraid that you want to TAKE them for something. And you have to find a way to convince them that it's good for THEM...and good for ALL OF US as a whole.

JD is a character to me, but he does seem to support black business. I can't knock anybody for that. I think this is an absolute MUST. We need men to take back their neighborhoods. The places where they live. And turn them around. Together as 1, with at least 1 ideal goal. To make this a black owned, black operated neighborhood.

Everyone can get it together and do it. You just need to start doing it. My husband always said you've got to start somewhere. All it takes is 1 person. All you need is 1 - 2 cats to get out there and start doing something in the community. And once other people see you doing it, they'll get to doing it to. You get a group of your neighbors together, pool your resources into a LLC and buy out your neighborhood stores. Buy up your neighborhood land and build a park. Buy up your empty lots. Buy up derelict houses.

Buy up an old building which hasn't been used in ages, and turn it into a community center. Take the idea to Community Activists, and businessmen in your local city. They'll get behind it just for the publicity. Get your local rappers involved. They'll get behind it for the same reason.

Wu Tang is for the babies!!

But hell theres no better time or place to start than now and with you. You're a black man. Get out there and be the leader that our people need you to be.

This is what this whole thing is about. Offering solutions. Having a discussion and thinking of ways to fix things.

Its gonna take a minute to process this...

Trust, when I looked at this it made me literally sit down and reflect... hard.

I'll begin my portion here

What people don't want to understand is that it is ok to let things go and move on, but at least heal from the trauma which we haven't. In not one way we as a people dealt with it because how it makes other races feel, all the while we are suffering from conditioned traumatic responses.... I will raise my hand and say I have hurt people from staring too long in my youth, I could say as a first generation american that I was taught to believe in the superiority of their culture over my own and cling to their ideals of a equality on paper and not in practice. I have seen the discourse which happens when you bring it up... hell, even when after I was done in the military and went to university I still seen how it's discussed.
While I was in one of the theology courses @ Fordham, a jewish aspiring film producer said that 'we live in a society without racism but people were still anti-semetic'.... after I tore into his so called Jew ass and the instructor, and the rest of the lilly white classmates which got uncomfortable and didn't say shit... their cognitive dissonance and the SCJ badge of false pride for their burnt offering called a holocaust.

This is only part of it though. This board has a gift and a curse, because in the web of threads which we discuss our issues and traumas, the crimes and manipulations of our image, the indirect and direct tactics used by the government against us, the nurturing of a culture by nonblack enterprises used to further muddy the waters and destroy our families... we post and discuss the micro issues of the problem, but when we attempt to place it together, the conditioning kicks in and we defend them by blaming ourselves. Although its the individual who chooses to act, someone had to create the circumstances leading to the choices made or how did it develop... we are taught not to look in our past and reflect, from the dark continent, to slavery, to the era of eugenical tactics and wholesale accepted murder and torture, fleecing of our resources in their help to us, etc.

Well said as always Deacs.

LI you post some things lol. Life is harmonic. An Asian psychologist once told me that just because a person is not daed does not mean your relationship with them is over and shouldn't be maintained. That was totally her cultural perspective peeking through rather than her CAC psych training. I really appreciated that. This is a concept that most indigenous cultures hold dear- our ancestors matter and the veil between this life and the next and the next. Interesting.

Thissssssssss is what i'm talking about. All natural cultures, peoples on this planet had THIS understanding. They had the understanding that we are part of something bigger and connected to it. And we could still be connected to it. We still ARE connected to it. I am hoping to become a teacher 1 day. When i'm around 50 or so.

It is, got detoured earlier with thread research...

So we are able to generate/vibrate on the same frequency with our ancestors due to the same line of blood... with this we are able to access the realm of spirits which habors them for fellowship...

So the same prayer meditations grants time for the commune.

Is this close to it Legacy?

What about the shrine? What goes into it?

Word. Nothing wrong with that. Yo, thanks for dropping knowledge, insight, and offering solutions in here too. That's why I started the thread. I wanted to create a dialogue with the brothas and sistas here.

No our familial blood lines have nothing to do with our ability to access our ancestors. It's more like think of it just as......they're there. They're out there. They could be close to you. They could be far away. You can call to them you can speak to them. They can communicate back through different phenomena. We use shrines to just offer them acknowledgement that we honor them. That we're thinking of them. Nothing spirits like more than being thought of.

Fragments of them, pieces of them, blessed cancels, concentration of energy goes into shrines. In the old days they had sacrifices there.

With our familiar spirits communication is done by just asking them. Being humble and asking them for help, guidance, strength.

As I am trying to get my gears in motion...
Dropping off these kids for you to play with
