divide everything by x, and then find the common denominator.

wrong... and you still didn't SOVLE the problem. kind of implicit in the thread title that you perform that task... :hmm:

oh here's the other one for you to solve

48/2(9+x)=2

I wish I would take part in this bullshit again

these niggas are stupid smart though SaKem:lol:... humor me and solve the SECOND equation for me. first one is a smidge bit troublesome due to the fractious answer but i promise the second one is stress free:lol:

48/2(9+x)=288 x = 3
48/2(9+x)=2 x= -107/12

Not distributive property since their is a division sign to the left at the start of the quation. You use order of operations. If the division sign wasn't there you're right but since it's there order of operations. Check link at bottom from mathway.com

I dont give a fuck whats in the equation. You Simplify with the Distributive Property first. Its common knowledge. 3rd Grade stuff. ;)

@a-hole18

And to respond to your "example".. The 24 is multiplied by the Parentheses. There is no number that the Parentheses would own in that expression since there isnt a number naked in front of it. Totally different problem as Distributive Property doesnt come into play as it does in the discussed problem.

only cause some of you niggas are too stupid and too solve for x the answer is 2 btw in that other thread. solve and CHECK your answer.... assholes.

i can move x around all day long substituting for any of the terms on the left of the equation. the answer is 2

x/2(9+3)=2

48/x(9+3)=2

48/2(x+3)=2

:lol: followup deleted her post

:confused:

48/2(9+x)=288

24(9+x)=288

216 + 24x = 288 (subtract 216 from both sides)

24x = 72 (divide 24 from both sides)

x = 3

48/2(9+3)=288

24(12)=288

288=288

i'm rusty but uh what the hell?

nigga you gotta isolate x you can't combine terms on the same side as x all willy nilly like that:lol: wtf? you have to distribute that 2 through the equation because it acts on the x (due to the parentheses). besides that all terms under the division sign must be treated as one term. i.e. even if you are using ORDER division before multiplication well... you have to divide the orignal number by all of the terms BELOW the division sign. you are suffering from linear thinking and not looking at the equation in it's entirety. :smh: public school stand up!

The reason for that it's not a distributive property problem. This is a distributive property problem 2(9+3)= 2*12 =24 This is not 48/2(9+3) because it is an order of operations property.

My last post because the majority doesn't get this problem. This is not a distributive property problem it's an order of operations problem. THe reason it is an order of operations is because 48/ starts the problem if it was 48/(2(9+3)) than you would be right and you would solve the parentheses. Since only 9+3 is in the parentheses. That is the only thing that gets solved. Then you have 48/2(12). Order of operations say you go from left to right. www.mathway.com has it the same as myself. No matter what you do 48/2(9+3) = 288 or 48/2(9+x)= 288 x=3

They simplify it first 48/2 * (9+3) order of operations.

You and the majority keep doing this 48/ (2(9+3)) which is wrong since a division sign starts this equation. If you and the others don't get this this you never will unless it's explained to you by someone's who's logic you can't refute. Email this problem the way it's written to mathway.com or any math site you like and you will get 288 and they will explicitly state order of operations.

no no no! you seem like you're intelligent so just accept that you are LEARNING something here. this isn't to make you look bad but please pay attention here because we are following order of operations... all of the terms under the division sign are being treated as ONE term BECAUSE the division sign come first NOT in spite of it... until there is a "+" or "-" or parentheses sign between terms under the division symbol all terms thereunder must be treated as ONE. this really isn't that complicated stop ADDING terms to the equation.

Your laughing www.mathway.com did that. It is correct. Read order of operations. It clearly explains from left to right with division and multiplication. There is no linear thinking. I simply know the correct math rule to apply for this problem and I am using it. You and the majority of others are confusing yourselves with pemdas, or bodmas or distributive property instead of order of operations.

ok, well you just keep doing your homework that way buddy meanwhile i never sported less than a 93 in any math course i ever took.

oh i learned all of this in public school f.y.i.

Listen man. That problem you posted is doing this...

24 * (9 + 3)

No Distributive Property there....

If the problem was...

24 * 3(9 + 3) It does this...

= 24 * 3(12)

= 24 * 36

= 864

Anytime a number is directly in front of the Parentheses you simplify first. Some calculators recognize this (Like the one in my sig), some dont.

So when you have a problem with a number directly in front of a Parentheses, in your mind the problem should look like this...

24 *(3(9+3)

Why? Because any number directly in front of a Parentheses, by that I mean touching the Parentheses belongs to it, and you have to Simplify.

What you're confusing is a problem with a number like this: 3(9+3)

Isnt a valid problem, and it constitutes a single expression. You have to solve it before you start the problem. The Order of Operations doesn't have shit to do with this. You do this first to make the problem valid...

You solve it to 36, then you can evaluate the rest of the problem.

You're right but to that same example put 4/ in front and it becomes an order of operations problem not distributive. 2(9+3) is distributive but 48/2(9+3) is order of operations. Read the def of order of operations. Then look at any example of distributive property with a division sign in front and see how it's solved.

What Im saying is the fact that there is NOTHING between the 2 and the () means that the 2 belongs to it, and the problem would be solved like 48/(2(9+3). The only way this is different is if the problem is written like: 48/2*(9+3).

This would have been one of the questions you got wrong then. I can support this problem with my steps can you?

-107/12 = -8.1967 which I said was x

48/2 = 24 (9+ -8.1967)= .8033
24*.8033= 2

Prove it's wrong by any official math site.

you just made up a new problem substituting your incorrect values but you cannot see it can you?:lol: where are you getting -107/12???? lol... and the answer "x" is not -8.1967 it's a positive answer but yet that is the answer if 48/2(9+x)=288 because the answer to 48/2(9+3)=2 in the realm of mathematics. i'm going to pm my nigga phillyphilly to end this fiasco tho so stay tuned

The first thing you're doing wrong is multiplying 48/2 which is illegal, because the 2 is drectly in front of () with nothing in between.

ok op is pulling some grand fuckery. this very same equation was debated on a physics board.

the notation is bullshit.

i look at this: 48/2(9+x)=288 like this: (48÷2)(9+x)=288

which translates: solve what you can then solve for x.

Perhaps that is wrong. Dunno.

some people are looking at this: 48/2(9+x) like this:
3235072-0.png

again. the notation is fuckery and is confusing.

op = fuckery

I gave you two answers 48/2(9+x)= 288 x = 3
for 48/2(9+x)=2 x = -8.1967 or - 107/12 I gave you mathematical evidence of this and you laugh at it. I gave you www.mathway.com as an official math site that backs me up so all this distributive property stuff and laughing can't refute my answer. You laugh because you realize you made up a problem that you couldn't solve and realize that I'm right and all you have is that guilty ass laugh. It's cool though I know I'm right no need to admit it though. You can't prove your answers while I can so I'll just bounce.
