Most people don’t question anything? It’s always good to question any form of information presented to you. It is also good to find out how did the person that told you the information, received his:her information and so on...

Conversation 1...

John: Shannon is spending all of her mother’s money because she is not working.

Mike: Shannon should be ashamed of herself because she is over 45 years old

Conversation 2..

John: Shannon is spending all of her mother’s money because she is not workin

Mike: How do you know Shannon is spending all of her mother’s money? Did you talk to the mother? Did Shannon get a job recently? Etc...

Sadly, majority of people use conversation 1, when communicating..

Not me. I never use conversation one. I always question everything.

I try to use it all the time. It works works best when you use it on yourself. It helps you in avoiding a lot of bad decisions.

It also exposes people's hypocrisy. It's a good teaching tool to open up dialog and make people question their commitment to an idea.

Why is it the Socratic Method? How do we know that Socrates created this? What proof do we have? Why is he getting shine?

The development of said method and the reasoning behind it's etymology is covered right here sir

From what I can see, Plato is the one who documented it , mostly because everything credited to Socrates comes from his students, mainly Plato, because Socrates didn't write.

So whether he actually developed these things or not, he is credited with it. And even then he didn't come up with it all on his own, he just happens to be the most popular philosopher from that time.

So in this part of the world we call it that. Is there anyone else you would prefer it credited to or another name you would like to build a case for ?

LOL It's been used plenty of times on here before....and one of the frequent reasons some of us are labeled coons and CACs when dummies get holes punched thru their arguments

It's good practice, but this is how TALKING POINTS are created. So it's not just questioning as much as there being some type of reasonable and logical approach to the line of questioning.

Usually I try to get people to stay on topic, so if they question me on something that is outside of the topic, then I try and keep the conversation focused.

When people start questioning for the sake of it, then it becomes trolling.

This is one of the primary teaching methods in my classroom. I feign ignorance to force them to defend positions and really delve deeper into subjects. It’s great because it’s not like debating where your goal is to “win” and persuade a panel or an audience. You want to make your point and share perspectives with others. Thanks for sharing.

 Yessir

a lot of times conversation 2 leads to arguments. i had to watch how i used that especially with women because they get bitchy

If you make someone stay on topic during a debate, their argument will fall apart when obfuscation is no longer accepted.

I use the BGOL method:

  • Say whatever come to mind no matter how off-base I am
  • If questioned get defensive and call the person a coon
  • Asked to see a picture of their hand
  • Hit them with the :smh: or the :hmm:
  • Put them on ignore

I dont even waste time going back and forth with mofos like this, in real life and on the internet. Shit is a waste of time, waste of energy

Parmenides (in western philosophy) I believe was the first to be credited with deductive reasoning.

Cool thanks I'll look that up. I stopped at the point of the extent of my knowledge on it lol
Be sure to look into the group called the Sophists. Protagorus, Geno, and others. They were the group of travelling philosophers who were said to have popularized the rhetoric of disproof. In my opinion, they are the primary influence of today's use of 'opinon' as absolute relativity for the individual. Fuckin up the way the entire world thinks.
