New York, NY- June 4, 2008- VP Records is pleased to announce that Soca Gold 2008, the latest installment in the Socca Gold series, has reached the 1 spot atop of Billboard Magazine’s Reggae chart. The release comes on the heels of a slew of VP Records’ releases hitting 1, already marking 2008 as a banner year for the label.
Since its inception in 1997, the Soca Gold series has led the genre with breakthrough hits and enduring classics.
Carnival Competition determines big hits in Soca and establishes young acts in the genre, of which Soca Gold serves as the soundtrack. On May 20th, the latest installment: Soca Gold 2008 was released to Soca fans and includes such stand out sunshine-soaked songs by Fay-Ann Lyons Alvarez, Roy Cape, Kerwin Du Bois & Shal Marshal, and Ricky T, each of their songs have been hits at Trinidad’s carnival. Soca Gold 2008 also includes bumping, party-ready tracks from Mr. Dale and Don Trent, which have been hits on New York radio.
