Always wanted to learn the ballroom but never got around to it. A natural rythm can only take you so far. How many of you were taught this stuff growing up or learned as an adult on your own.

I don't mean competition level but how to handle yourself on the floor when the music starts to play.

I can tango, waltz, salsa, and do a few other things.

Nowadays it finding the person that makes me want to dance. I am looking to enjoy myself, but it's hard to find someone who knows (or wants to know) how to do more than ass-shaking in the hip hop clubs. Which is why I don't go out, anymore.

Take the lead with Antonio Banderas is what spiked my interest in learning the artforms but only if i can gt my lazy ass to actually register for the classes when i see them advertising.

Learning the dance is not as important as FEELING the dance. And for that, my friend, you need to perfect partner. One that makes you WANT to dance. When you are out there and the chemistry is flowing, it is awesome. People see it, and actually stop to watch YOU TWO dance.

Unbelievable, man. It really is. You have to get out there and do it if you can.

Being from Chi, I can Step:dance: a lil..don't do it much, anymore. And I'm a world class slow dancer. I don't do any line dances...Electric Slide and stuff..I hate doin ANY dance that other people are doing the same thing.

I bachata, merengue, reggaeton...same ol twostep...bootleg break dance...cha cha...electric

i does it all baby

I got turned on to Latin Ballroom dance back in the early 90's. I was watching a championship on PBS and there was this FIERCE redhead (Melanie LaPatin) who danced with such passion and sexuality, I was hooked. I was already taking dance classes at the time so I just had my mom add Latin into my schedule the next semester.

I studied for a few semesters, competed briefly in a junior division (never placed). Eventually I dropped the classes and focused on jazz and lyrical instead.

I can still break out those moves on the dance floor when I feel the urge.

2-step, salsa, merengue, bachata, reggae dances, learned a little waltz for a party. I can hold my own pretty well. I'm dying to learn the tango, just looking for a willing partner.

Master of the dutty wine!

But I plan on taking a mambo and rhumba class this year. I can't wait cuz I'm not very coordinated.

Although I danced pretty well to house music back in the day and even used to vogue in the Village, NYC with the drag queens in my heyday.

CHI TOWN STEPPERS ............STAND UP !!

Man, I was steppin in basements (mid 70's) to some JB's when the only peeps steppin was THUGS. It was normal to see two dudes (usually gang members, perm in their hair, baggies, Stacy Adams) steppin together, and IF you was crazy enough to say that was gay, you'd have prolly (99% sure) gotten stuck or shot. If you had told me then that they would have steppin lessons..steppin on tv, I'd have :lol: til I passed out. I'm sure alotta the folks gettin into it don't know how straight thuggish it was, back in the days.
