Women...especially Black women have it tougher..that's just a fact of life. There've been gains, but..you know the speech.
HOWEVER when it comes to child support & child custody laws:(:angry::confused::(:angry::angry: men get screwed over, BY LAW. I can't be impartial or rational on this issue:lol: I admit it. EVERY woman is evil & I'll take a man's side, even if I know he's wrong. :lol: Ok, I'm better, now. I had to get that off my chest.:lol: J/K..But really, this is prolly just a tragic story of ANOTHER Black man caught up in the system and the fatal consequences. i'm not assuming anything. i asked and was told. and the source is without question accurate.

so as i said again, if he was not making payments that's one thing. he was. he just wasn't making thousands of dollars worth of payments.

she originally didn't ask for too much. but they gave it to her anyway and she took it. she got comfortable with it. when it started dwindling however she started complaining started with the reporting. shit just anthilled from there.
 
Well if he really died of a heart attack then hopefully they wont blame her. She needs to be open and honest at this time. let them know all the good things about Dad and let them know why he was in the position he was in. (depending on their age)

This means he was 13 months behind on a $6,000 a month court order based on a snapshot in time of what he should have been able to provide.

For that he was thrown in jail where he could not be in his kid's life, and there he died.

1. Da Don knew the family (again sorry for your loss.)

2. He was, taking Don at his word on the 6K/month, a little over a year behind on his child support.

Facts that a lot of stupid fucks in this thread do NOT know but I know

1. When your child support level is established, its extremely difficult to get your amount modified. EXTREMELY. Courts are very hostile to father's rights, this is why there are so many advocacy groups pushing the govt to change them. So if your financial situation changes in a bad economy, just getting some help from the courts and their agencies is like climbing Mt. Everest.

2. The black community is as damaged by fathers not being PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY present and educated and self-developed enough to break cycles of ignorance and poverty...as it is by fathers not being financially present.

3. The State is completely indifferent to whether you are physically and emotionally present in the child's life so long as you are paying the child support. There are next to no family law structures in place to ensure the father is spending time with the child, and if they have to choose between slowing the gears down enough to negotiate a new arrangement in cases like that of Sean; or just throwing your ass in jail whether or not you were a regular part of the child's life, they will choose B even if it is ultimately to the child (and society's) detriment.

Now, having established these five points, I respect Don's grief and see his angle. I also know Im getting one side of the story. Im not gonna cast aspersions on the character of the mother or on the late Sean Levert but the system is fucked and a lot of you bitter, sideline spectators talking much shit need to acknowledge that.

At the same time, the broken system does not excuse men from taking care of children they create. PERIOD. I fully agree with you about the system being fucked up. No one in their right mind can deny that. Even so the man should have paid what he could through the system after he was ordered to. When he didn't he basically put himself in jail. Of course no one here wants to hear that. Most would rather blame the woman here. Deflection seems to rule with alot of people here.

Um unless you have access to his case files and you can definitively say this wasnt the case, you and Followup dont know what the fuck youre talking about.

Which I'm seeing a lot of out of you two lately.

Nonetheless that doesnt exclude Followup's incredibly disrespectful argument that the man deserved to die cause God Dont Like Ugly.

Unless you pay the full amount, on time, when due, you run the risk of being jailed even if you are making partial payments. Its all on the caseworker and her chain of command, as they have a lot of latitude on this one.

The bottom line is you dont know that man, you dont know his family, you dont know the details of how it went down, and you're making a lot of fucked up assumptions about the deceased.

Like I said, I know Da Don is obviously partial to his peoples, so Im not gonna denigrate the mother or argue Sean Levert was blameless, but I am familiar enough with family law and courts to know that they are a clusterfuck that victimizes people on both sides of the equation.

You on the other hand clearly do not have such reservations about being judgmental towards a dead man and his family in a time of mourning, but perhaps you'll wake up and realize the level of assumption and projection you are engaging in.

And I dont give a fuck WHO Followup was trying to get a rise out of.

We're talking about a dead black man and his fatherless children, and while we dont know if he was in their lives (Da Don says he was), we know he isnt now.

We know its a tragedy across the board, and I'd hope the often-scorned female posters would at least have the maturity to comment with class and discretion.

Why would the kids have any issues with their mom? She did not lock him up. He had a way to make money with the Isley name he could have been in the studio making music that is what singers do sing. BTW "His" own father couldn't front him some money?:smh::smh::smh:

despite what you think the Levert's have...people just don't have money lying around like that. I can already tell you Sr. is extended and has been for a minute.

and the reason why i asked the original question is because kids aren't stupid.

if mom is complaining(and i'm not saying she was, but we know "real life situation") about how such and such is no good and i'm taking him to court regarding child support, assumptions will fall into place.
