Smart Decision: A-Rod Will HAVE Surgery--NOW !

Why put off the inevitable...now or later. Any further delay could 'hurt' the teams chances at making a serious run for all of the marbles. Why go on the DL while the team's making a run, thus eliminating a solid bat in the line-up.

It's projected that he'll miss 7-9 weeks, so A-Rod's return to the line-up is expected right after the *ALL-Star break. That's when he'll be needed most. After missing approximately one-half of the season, he'll probably hit between 25-30 HR's, while knocking in 75-85 RBI's. Those are good numbers for the ordinary. A-Rod's extra-ordinary.

The Yankees might make a trade to replace his bat, after evaluating both Mark Teahen (3B) and Cody Ransom (3B). Both players have seen spare action (i.e., late-inning replacements, base runers, pinch-hitting,etc). If either one stays, Ransom will probably get the nod. His numbers project more favorably than Teahen's. But with the Yankees you never know. They may 'open' the pocketbook, and sign a high-priced veteran. And it will be 'high-priced', because your opponents recognize desperation!!

* allowing time for a 'late Spring training'..a so-called 'getting in baseball shape' period.

best thing I've heard all day!!!!!

last week I was so angry at the Yankees(yes i'm a die hard fan since the early 80's), why wouldn't you have the surgery now? it only makes sense, they have 9yrs/$300mill invested in this guy, why risk any further injury by letting him play hurt........now I'm glad to hear that they're finally being smart about this situation..........plus I think this will even help him with the steroid situation......with him out of sight for a few weeks, maybe the media will let him chill for a minute before the turn the heat on him again.....that lady snitch's book will come out while he's out, so maybe that won't have the same impact.......

I don't see the down side to having the surgery now:)

Very good point about having the surgery now, vis-a-vis his admitted steroid usage, and the ramifications that are certain to continue--especially at opposing venues. He definitely needs a little 'quiet-time', as well as, the elimination of further injury. His decision is well received!

9 weeks means he'll be back in May. Even if you allow for that "extended spring training" crap by June he should be in game shape

doubt if any of it is real anyway. He taking time off to escape the media frenzy surrounding him. Just when did he develop this injury anyway? (don't answer that, it's rhetorical)

Actually 'Z', the injury was--as I understand--reported to Girardi/Cashman during the off-season, but was not seened as serious. However, a specialist (Dr. Phillipond--spelling?) confirmed it.

As far as the May date--technically, you're right. However, allowing time for rehabilitation and the extended 'Spring Training' period takes us to July, possibly August. Like I said, it's pretty much of a 'crap-shoot'. Scepticism will abound!
