Small Female Cop Tries To Arrest A Man For Riding His Bike On A Sidewalk

Two things people need to understand and seem to get wrong. If the police ask you for ID to write you a summons you need to give your ID. If the police stop you in your car and ask you to step out the car they you need to step out the car.

Now with the car issue if you step out the car lock your door and put the key in your pocket then won't be searching your car for any old reason.

her initial intent may have just been to give him a warning, and he popped off at the mouth, and the shit then escalated to "OK, you're getting a summons"

she could have been a asshole from the jump, and was going hard on the kid. We just don't know what happened before we get to the point we're at in the video.

but the bottom line is, the kid just needed to comply, take the L, and keep it moving. For whatever reason he felt emboldened, and THIS particular situation, was not one to try and puff out your chest. Your boy is filming the shit, so if you feel you're being wronged, purse the matter after the fact. Or he could have just simply sat down and said that he's not doing anything until a supervisor arrives on the scene.

I am surprised folks don't know it's illegal to ride your bike on the side walk. This young brother got a lot to learn to about how to handle people. in NYC it is against the law to ride on the sidewalk above the age of 13, when asked for I.D. you are required to show it once you have broken the law

Dude, was right from the start, because his first question should have been are you detaining me are you charging me, after that if she said yes, then on what grounds. The officer held her ground and did not get violent, thats a plus in my book. The dude escalated the situation take your citation and move along, all that grand standing got him no where, and if he was smart he could have argued his way out of a ticket, thats where having a smarter parent kicks in and teaches you think two steps a head, I doubt he was riding 30 mph down the side walk because we wouldn't have this scene he was probably walking/riding or sitting on it... That's the issue.

Officers are authorized to enforce the law they are not mandated to enforce every law. Which means it's purely by their own discretion if they think the law is being violated or disrupting law & order.

If dude was riding his bike on the sidewalk doing rush hour on a crowded sidewalk a ticket is understandable. If the sidewalk is relatively empty... it's a judgement call.

I have family in law enforcement and homeland security and I see even among them that cop attitude that every law has to be enforced to the fullest extent. I've told them several times to scale it back that's the reason people hate law enforcement they are too gung-ho about the slightest infractions. They get into the habit of enforcing every thing they see like they are trying to prove to themselves and others they are doing their job being a good cop.

They get it but they don't know how to slow that habit.

The kid earned that skirmish, as others have said had he just relaxed after that initial reaction and pass the ID over then he would have a summons to worry about and a story to tell later. All that "get off me n#!!@" nonsense and chest bucking over a bike summons killed whatever credibility he had. The 2nd cop saw him carrying on with the female cop so he was lit as the young kid say. That boy lucky cop #2 didn't outright whip him on sight. There's more than necessary footage of legitimate instances of police brutality... This isn't one of them, buddy better tell his friend to remove that footage from the web... Potential employers are watching.
