Warning, graphic video: Robbery suspect runs over victim

Surveillance video shows a violent attempted robbery of Texas business owners.

A group of thieves were captured in a graphic video attempting to steal $75,000 from a woman’s purse on Friday before running her over and fleeing – without the cash.

Surveillance video captured a woman, who was not identified, getting out of her car with a purse that held $75,000 to go into a business she is believed to own, FOX 26 Houston reported.

Before she arrived at the business, she went to the bank and took out the cash for “legitimate business reasons,” the Miami Herald reported. Police believed she was followed from the bank to the business by the thieves in an SUV.

As she was about to enter the business, she was attacked by a suspect who tried to take the purse containing the money.

A second vehicle pulled up after the SUV and another suspect got out of the car, said Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman. "That’s the individual that we got some pretty good quality video of."

The victim's husband, who was inside the business at the time, ran outside and attacked the robber. A second robber intervened before leaving to jump into the car. The husband and wife were attempting to fight off the first robber who was seen on video gripping the purse before the second robber reverses the sedan, running over the couple before fleeing. The woman was able to hold onto her bag with the money.

“Right after that, our deputy observed what’s going on from a distance,” Herman said. "He gets there. There’s some other citizens that did also come to the aid of the victim.”

The deputy was able to arrest one of the suspects. The suspect, identified as Davis Dowell Mitchell, 31, was charged with aggravated robbery. The other man is on the loose and police have asked anyone with information to contact the office. KHOU 11 reported police were searching for other members of the group.

The woman was transported to the hospital where she was said to be in critical condition while her husband was treated on the scene for minor injuries. Herman said the woman was expected to recover.

Surprised no one had a gun between the robbers and the store owners. I wish the guy that ran out of the store had a gun and could have shot a couple of those idiots.

Props to the woman for putting up a HELL of a fight!

Woman in critical condition after fighting off robbers attempting to steal $75K

Authorities are looking for at least two suspects in a violent assault and attempted robbery Friday in northwest Harris County that left a woman in critical condition.

At around 9:30 a.m., a woman — who authorities have not yet identified — had just withdrawn $75,000 in cash and was arriving at a location on the 23200 block of Northwest Freeway near Jersey Village, Harris County Constable Precinct 4 stated on social media.

As she got out of her car, another vehicle pulled up. A suspect jumped out of that car and began assaulting the woman in attempt to steal her purse, a surveillance video released by authorities shows.

Authorities later identified that suspect as 31-year-old Davis Dowell Mitchell.

The female victim "fought hard and refused to give up her purse containing the money," authorities stated. Her husband saw the fight and ran out to help.

As the victims continued to fight Mitchell, another car — a black Chrysler 300 — pulled up. Another unidentified suspect jumped out and began to also assault the victims, authorities stated.

That suspect got back in his car, reversed over the victims and then fled the scene, the surveillance video shows. While the victim was able to hold on to her purse, she was injured by the car attack and is now in critical condition, authorities stated.

The victim is expected to live but is in surgery after injuring her shoulder and back, Constable Mark Herman said.

As the attack was happening, a Precinct 4 deputy drove by. The deputy "saw people on the ground and didn't know what it was at first," Herman said.

The deputy arrested Davis Dowell Mitchell, who will face charges of Aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, authorities stated.

Mitchell has not been cooperating with the investigation, Herman said.

Authorities are now looking for at least two other suspects: The driver of the car who ran over the victim, and the driver whose car Mitchell was initially riding in.

Authorities urged the public to contact "local law enforcement" if they recognize the suspects in the surveillance video, seen above.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) --
Police have identified the second suspect accused of robbing and assaulting a woman outside of a northwest freeway gas station.

The woman who was targeted made a $75,000 withdrawal from a bank on F.M. 1960 and was taking it to her family's gas station and check cashing business on 290 near Telge Road, where she was ambushed.

Both she and her husband, who ran out to help her, put up a fight but were beaten in the process. The woman was run over by one of the robbers. Both victims are now hospitalized.

"She was followed from the bank to the business by these two robbers who drove in separate cars," said Pct. 4 Constable Mark Hermann, who said that's how jugging works.

One suspect, identified as 31-year-old Davis Dowell Mitchell, was quickly arrested after the robbery by a deputy who also recovered the stolen cash.

Mitchell has been charged with felony aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. No bond was set.

The second suspect in the video has been identified as Travonn Johnson. Johnson was identified as the suspect who drove up during the robbery in the black Chrysler, authorities say.

Constables say Johnson is being charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Or hire an off duty cop to escort them.

Well you know what it's like out here, you can hire anyone trustworthy with a piece to follow you but still, I'd think the armored car would be a better deterrent to a thief than just a dude with a sidearm showing in his waist. He just waiting to be set up. I'd think they would be more inclined to rob you with a dude there. He'd be the first one popped.

A check cashing and gas station with no armed security. Is this the first time a robbery attempt was made on them!?!?!

If I remember correctly, there was a franchise owner for McDonald's who was killed in Houston a few years ago in similar situation not using an armored truck services. He got robbed & killed leaving his restaurant with a bunch of money.

So the husband ran out and was fighting for the bag as well as opposed to getting those dudes away from his wife and running for shelter. SMH.

They killed a dude about 2 weeks ago when he was leaving his gas station to make a deposit. Then they broke into his store a week after he got killed. You cant cut corners when it comes to protecting yourself and your money.

Someone tipped them off. :smh: I'm glad those fools are off the streets before their actions cost life.

yep

looks like it might be a set up to me

They could’ve pulled it off if they pulled up their pants.

Those dudes definitely knew how much was in the purse. They had been following her the whole time. Both the husband and wife should have been armed.

Bank Teller Set up 75,000 Robbery with BF

The Wallis State Bank employee doesn't seem too pleased in this picture. Investigators say she masterminded the violent robbery of a businesswoman. She texted a so-called "go signal" to launch the attack. She's now in jail.

A bank employee accused in the violent attack of a woman for $75,000 appeared to have texted a "go signal" to launch the robbery, court documents reveal.

Shelby Taylor Wyse faced a judge on Wednesday after being arrested and jailed on second-degree felony charges of robbery.

The constable's office said she was working at the Wallis State Bank off FM 1960 where the victim withdrew the $75,000 on August 17, the day of the robbery.

The victim was taking the money to her family's gas station and check cashing business on 290 near Telge Road, when officials say she was ambushed by two more suspects in the case, Travonn Johnson and Davis Dowell Mitchell.

Both men have already been charged. Wyse is dating Johnson.

Over the weekend, Johnson was identified as the suspect who drove up during the robbery in a black 2018 Chrysler 300, authorities say.

"She was followed from the bank to the business by these two robbers who drove in separate cars," said Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman.

Authorities say they used surveillance video to get the license plate of the Chrysler, which was registered to Budget car rental. Officers discovered that Wyse was the leaseholder and video clearly showed her renting the vehicle.

Wyse allegedly told officers the car had been stolen that morning, but she never reported the theft.

Before the robbery, Wyse can also be seen in surveillance video watching the victim making the withdrawal. That's when Wyse sent a text message to Johnson, presumably a "go signal," officials say.

Prosecutors say police are working to get a search warrant on Wyse's phone to confirm exactly what the text said.

However, officers did find messages on Mitchell's phone discussing the details of the robbery with someone named "Tata." A witness identified "Tata" as Johnson.

Mitchell was quickly arrested after the robbery by a deputy who also recovered the stolen cash.

Mitchell has been charged with felony aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Johnson has been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Constable Herman says they are still searching for a fourth person, the driver who followed the woman from the bank to the family's check-cashing business.

They made her bail 75,000. Oh, the irony.

Whoa, the plot thickened! They had the Becky rent the car and let them know when the money was in play.....

Right. You have that kind of cash on you you’ve got to be strapped plus never turning your back on anything until the money is deposited.
