CNN Just SAVAGED Spicer Over Pathetic Trump Wiretap Excuses
By Marisa Manfredo

This morning on CNN, Alisyn Camerota and cohost Chris Cuomo offered deep insight into the chaos of the Donald Trump Administration wrapped in a wry sense of humor (video below).

At yesterday’s White House press conference, Press Secretary Sean Spicer flip-flopped incoherently when asked about Trump’s allegations that former President Obama wiretapped his campaign and transition.

Camerota explains, “First [Spicer] said that yes, Donald Trump is the subject of a federal investigation.”

Midway through his answer, however, an aide appeared with a note that was handed to Spicer.

After reading the note Spicer immediately said,

There is no reason we have to think that the president is the target of any investigation whatsoever. The tweet dealt with wiretaps during the campaign, the other is an investigation. They are two separate issues.”

The immediate backtracking is nothing short of comical.

Cuomo held up a piece of paper with a nonsensical flowchart asking, “Do you think this was the note?” He suggested that his clumsily written note might explain what prompted Spicer “to go in seven different directions.”

Screen-Shot-2017-03-09-at-11.42.41-AM.png

Cuomo and Camerota also burst out laughing about Spicer managing to say in the same breath that wiretaps targeting Trump are a “separate issue” from an investigation. Why on earth would wiretaps be ordered unless it was for an investigation?

Political analyst David Drucker explained that the absurd press conferences the White House has been holding are the result of having “a president who doesn’t consult with his top aides before he decides to make an issue of something.”

In this case, the issue Trump created is the wiretapping scandal.

Drucker suspects that Trump “didn’t consult with anyone [before tweeting] and his aides are left to clean up the mess.”

And it certainly is a big mess for the aides to cope with. As Drucker explains,

[Trump] potentially implicated himself as being the subject of an investigation which would only happen if a FISA [Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act] judge found it credible that a warrant should be granted for him to be monitored.

Trump aides are in the spotlight with reporters demanding that they explain the President’s words that are not the result of any strategy meeting – they make no sense.

Camerota points out that it looks like aides aren’t even briefed on communications before they are sent to meet the press, exemplified by the mysterious note showing up half way through a press conference.

They have “no idea” what is going on and are forced to do what Camerota aptly describes as “verbal backbends,” trying to make the farfetched things Trump says on Twitter appear plausible.

Trump’s appalling management skills are almost enough to make us feel sorry for aides. But ultimately, they are complicit in his Administration’s inhumane policy agenda and are shameless Trump apologists. We are happy to have a good laugh at their expense.

Press Secretary Sean Spicer wears flag pin upside-down, a sign of distress:roflmao:

The beginning of Sean Spicer’s press briefing appeared to be under distress, at least according to his American flag pin.

The White House Press Secretary tried to present a positive message to reporters on Friday, though his lapel decoration, which was upside-down, said something different.

An upside-down American flag should only be flown upside-down as a sign of distress, according to USflag.org.

Spicer seemed unaware of the sartorial signal during his opening remarks, but switched it when a Fox News reporter questioned it.

“John Roberts always helpful with the fashion tips,” said a thankful Spicer, flipping the flag right-side up.

Team Trump's Omarosa Manigault had also put a note on Spicer's podium shortly before he fixed the mishap.

It was not quick enough for internet observers, however, who launched into jokes about the spokesman's stars and stripes.

"I fixed ur flag pin for u sean," said Twitter user darth, flipping Spicer on his head to fix the flag.

WikiLeaks to give tech companies early access to new CIA leaks

"Spicers flag pin pretty much represents the current state of the WH administration," actress Mo Collins said.

Others joked that the upside down flag, which appears prominently in "House of Cards" may just be Spicer referencing the Netflix show and its upcoming fifth season.

His Friday faux pas follows a long history of lapel pins receiving outsized scrutiny for their tiny size.

Though previously worn by figures such as Richard Nixon, the pins became commonplace on the chests of Bush administration employees after 9/11.

Barack Obama was questioned about his decision not to wear a pin during the 2008 presidential race, though ended up donning one, according to a TIME history of the pins.

Vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine was criticized last year for wearing what appeared to be a Honduran flag during a speech at the Democratic National Convention, though the emblem was actually a Service Flag honoring his son in the Marine Corps.

‘How does it feel to work for a fascist?’: Woman confronts Spicer in Apple Store

White House spokesman Sean Spicer was accosted by an Indian-American woman — who peppered him with questions about committing “treason” and working for a “fascist” like President Trump — as he shopped in an Apple Store over the weekend.

The encounter hassince gone viral after the woman who filmed it, Shree Chauhan, 33, claimed online that Spicer had made a racist statement to her, saying: “It’s such a great country that allows you to be here.”

ADVERTISING
“Unlike this administration, I do not believe in ‘alternative facts.’ I believe in facts. I do not believe in accusing someone of this level of racism, when if in fact it was not,” Chauhanwrote Sunday in a lengthy post on Medium.

“So I watched the video over and over again,” she said. “And his words were clear…’Such a great country that allows you to be here.’ That is racism and it is an implied threat.”

Chauhan, who lives in Washington, D.C., filmed the interaction with Spicer on Periscope Saturday night after spotting the White House spokesman in the store. She had been there getting her iPhone fixed and said she ultimately felt the need to “speak truth to power.”

“It is customary to give public figures their space…However, given what Mr. Spicer and his boss are doing to this country, I do not believe they are entitled to these norms and customs,” Chauhan explained.

In the clip, the self-described “eternal optimist” can be heard asking Spicer a series of questions, including “How does it feel to work for a fascist” and “Have you helped with the Russia stuff?”

“We have a great country,” the press secretary replies, while appearing to try and ignore Chauhan.

“Have you committed treason too? Just like the president,” she asks. “What can you tell me about Russia?”

It is after this barrage that Spicer delivers his allegedly “racist” remark, saying: “It’s such a great country that allows you to be here.”

Chauhan wrote on Medium that the response left her disgusted.

“I am still stunned by the boldness of having my citizenship threatened on camera,” she said. “I was not polite. But when does being impolite mean that I should be thrown out of the United States of America? The country I was born in, the country I was raised in, the country I love despite its flaws.”

Speaking to the Daily Mailabout the video on Sunday, Chauhan shot down claims that Spicer could have been referring to the First Amendment rights of all Americans to exercise free speech when he made the comment.

“He’s the press secretary for the president of the United States,” she said. “Don’t tell me what he probably meant because he also works for this administration that has done all of these things.”

Chauhan went on to note how President Trump has signed executive orders temporarily banning refugees and asylum seekers from predominately Muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa.

“He could’ve said, ‘Such a great country that allows dissent,'” she told the Mail. “There’s a lot of way that could’ve been said. To have someone who speaks for the president of the United States tell me to my face that I shouldn’t be here and I was born here – that is a real thing.”

Chauhan added that she’s feared for her safety since the day Trump was elected.

“I woke up the day after the election in fear of what would happen to someone like me. And we’ve seen what happened,” she said. “We’ve seen what happened to Indians.”

Earlier this month, a 39-year-old Seattle resident of Sikh heritage was shot by a man who reportedly shouted “go back to your country” just before pulling the trigger.

Weeks before that incident, a pair of Indian engineers were targeted by a Navy veteran who told them the same exact thing before blasting away at them. One of the men ended up dying and the other was injured.

“They’re gonna spin it however they want, but there is a palatable fear that people have in this country and it is warranted,” Chauhan said. “On a regular basis, Mr. Spicer consistently defends the actions — and I believe unconstitutional actions — and lies on behalf of this administration.

“Spicer has the protection of the podium when he’s in the press room,” she added. “I didn’t have time to sit there and ask questions I would ask if I was a reporter…Maybe having someone like a regular person ask those questions instead [of reporters] — that might work.”

CNN just played the ultimate “April” fools prank on the White House – and the joke is, it’s not a joke.

The “most trusted name in news” just hired what might be the most feared reporter in Washington – at least from the Trump administration’s perspective.

Screen-Shot-2017-04-03-at-12.52.12-PM.png

April Ryan has been a fixture in the West Wing since 1997 when she was appointed White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks. Now covering her 4th president, she’s been on the front lines of President Trump’s war on the press.

Last week, she became a household name when she stood-up to White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s attempts to belittle and silence her after she dared to ask about the President’s rock-bottom approval rating released by Gallup earlier that day.

Spicer’s treatment of Ryan was widely derided, with many criticizing the sexist and racist undertones of his line of attack, telling her at one point, as he interrupted her, “stop shaking your head!”

April handled the exchange with class and grace, insistent that the matter be framed for the larger issues at stake and not as an assault on her personally. In an interview with The Hill following the incident, she said:

“I’m not the news. I don’t like being in the news. But it’s about freedom of the press. We need to stay vigilant.”

April Ryan’s vigilance has dogged the White House since the day Trump took the oath of office, but it’s only been visible to her fellow White House reporters and the America Urban Radio Networks audience. The wider public only saw glimpses of it when press conferences deteriorated into circuses like they did last week.

That’s all changed now. With the much wider reach CNN provides, her tenacity and unique insight will be broadcast regularly to more people across more platforms.

April fools, Mr. President!

Tell that to the 11 million people of all kinds of faith, races, etc. Shower's during the Final Solution did gas people, infact a few thousand a day.

Please, then what on earth did they do to the poor people in the concentration camps!?!? Hitler's men stripped them of their dignity and inhumanly gased them to death, so tell me how you have the nerve to say that no chemical weapons were used. The less you say Mr. Spicer the better!!!

People will twist everything just to get mad and create drama. He meant that a person as evil as Hitler didn't use as evil a weapon--he did not mean that Assad is worse than Hitler, nor did he dismiss Hitler's crimes. Stop being obnoxious. The man's intent was only to say chemical weapons are extremely evil. So what if he gets a couple facts wrong or is inarticulate. His intention was simple.

Sean Spicer reportedly hid in bushes to avoid reporters following James Comey firing — and the internet can't stop laughing

Bush league.

After news spread that President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, Press Secretary Sean Spicer went to great lengths to avoid the barrage of media questions he was bound to get.

He reportedly took shelter behind bushes.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer walks from the West Wing of White House, in Washington, Tuesday, May 9, 2017, to speak to reporters. According to Daily Kos, after giving a cable news interview about the controversial firing — of a man conducting an investigation into possible collusion with the Russians — Spicer was cornered by journalists. Most of whom were eager to know why Trump dumped the top dog at the nation’s investigative agency.

All the times Trump and Sessions praised Comey for Clinton probe

So Spicer reportedly retreated into the hedges with his staff to map out a semblance of a plan.

After his Fox Business interview, Spicer “disappeared into the shadows,” Daily Kos reports.

While Kellyanne Conway and Spicer were put on damage control duty after the firing, the timing of the termination appears questionable — so say Democrats and even some Republicans.

Encircled by reporters, Spicer remained huddled in the bushes. That is, until Janet Montesi, executive assistant in the press office, told those gathered that the secretary would answer select questions. His terms: he couldn’t be filmed doing so.

White House officials rush to defend timing of Comey firing

“Just turn the lights off. Turn the lights off,” he said, according to Daily Kos.

On cue, Spicer appeared and attempted to mitigate concerns over the abrupt firing for about 10 minutes.

News about Comey’s plight came across just before 6 p.m. Tuesday. It was the same day that a grand jury issued subpoenas in the Russian investigation. Apparently, it was a complete surprise to Comey, who was in Los Angeles delivering a speech to FBI staffers.

For Spicer, while he might’ve brainstormed a plan while holed up in the shrubbery, the damage had been done.

Social media has responded with a flurry of comedic tweets — some likening the press secretary to Homer Simpson conspicuously slipping into the hedges.

User MacKenzie McHale tweeted: “A once credible member of the fourth estate reduced to the role of court jester — sad #Sean Spicer.”

Another user wrote, “Damn, I can’t wait to see the next @melissamccarthy skit on SNL!!”

President Trump mulls end to Sean Spicer’s daily White House press briefings: report

Amid a barrage of negative news developments in recent days, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer may no longer conduct a daily, televised press briefing after President Trump returns from his foreign trip, Politico reported Thursday.

Trump had been seriously considering curbing Spicer's role, or firing him altogether, and with the White House in tumult this week — after Trump's firing of FBI Director Comey, news that Trump disclosed classified information to Russian diplomats inside the Oval Office, the emergence of a memo by Comey alleging that Trump asked him to scrap an investigation into his former national security adviser and, finally, the appointment of a special counsel to take over the Russia probe — Trump apparently felt it was the right time to make a move, Politico reported.

Spicer has become a notorious figure due to his confrontational style with reporters and has been lampooned frequently on "Saturday Night Live" by actress Melissa McCarthy and Trump, Politico reported, has told aides he doesn't want Spicer to be the public face of the administration any longer.

According to Politico, deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who filled in for Spicer last week, will conduct regular briefings more frequently, with Spicer staying on in another communications role.

But the overall frequency of public briefings, regardless of who is running them, is likely to decrease too, Politico reported.

Spicer admitted “there are some skits on late night television that I will crack up at,” but didn’t specify what made him chuckle.

“There are times when it goes from funny to mean, and there’s a difference when that happens,” he said. “You have to have thick skin if you’re going to do this.”

White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, also appearing on Fox News on Friday, also weighed in on the show.

“I mean at times I think it’s over the top,” Priebus told Hannity. “I think ‘Saturday Night Live’ is so far over the top that perhaps, you know, they should give equal time to another opinion.”

And while Priebus said Spicer won’t be completely out of the national spotlight, the show signaled it was saying goodbye.
