Serious Question Regarding Slavery is a Choice

I’m not understanding your line of questioning and where you are going with it.

Exactly what point are you trying to make before I start answering questions that I am unsure on where your angle is at? Just making sure we are talking about the same thing.

Many different lines..

One we shouldn't look to entertainers as teachers

Two we also shouldn't be placing them on pedal stools

Three his misspelling or dumbing down this subject should have caused thoughtful conversation instead of the mob mentality that did ensue....we have people just as dumb as Kanye screaming fuck Kanye

Four if our masses are so mentally undeveloped to not know they are mentally enslaved that is our failure.

Spot on.

Uneffectively, he tried to give us the punchline without the setup of the joke and expects people to praise him for it.

He skipped over everything you mentioned in bold, an some, but especially the economics of racism and classism itself.

It's too nuanaced a subject to tackle in one sitting or assessment, yet he thought he was the messiah delivering the message.

Nah.

Right. There is so much other stuff that comes along with mental enslavement. It’s not clear cut and you can generalize it either.

I can’t even fathom being born into slavery. Born into an environment where this is your reality. Mental slavery is no different. Just because the white man gave us more freedoms didn’t mean the lasting mental and generational effects aren’t still there.

My goodness, we still got people living today that was born under Jim Crow laws (grandmother, mother and father all all still living). You got black people born in 1969 that would probably be their first family member born with full Civil rights.

All that stuff still have an affect on black folk today and each region on the US experienced it differently.

The problem isnt Kanye saying the shit he says....who gives a fuck? The problem is people acting like he's some modern day Mozart. This nigga makes beats and is a subpar rapper. Since when did he become some fucking genius?
Now people all salty because he said what he did. This dude is bi polar and mental because for years people have been stroking his ego. So he feels he can say, do, or make anything and people will except it. We as regular non famous people should be ashamed of ourselves for constantly following what entertainers do BESIDES their art. Music trash? Im moving on to the next album thats coming out. I dont give a fuck how this retarded celebrity feels when he's outside of the studio. How does some nigga that made a living sampling beats become this important?

100%

But instead of rolling over yet another misdirected black man, those that know should be teaching.

It seems obvious dude is going through something and us easily manipulated.

He.may even be delusional

But is he so far gone as to be discarded?

Black has no standing @ law. Never will.

Slavery is voluntary.....
You obligate / enslave yourself & reaffirm it regularly.

Ill post some vids later....
Solid facts & law for you to look up.

Im white & move with white power. Black power is an oxymoron. Black has no power. Black is criminal.

Get white & het right.

Agreed.....

Genius is overused and misused

He isn't even a prodigy

But why do we hold entertainers in such high regard and disrespect scholars, grits and elders

I don’t disagree with those points and the reason I asked your angle first instead of answering your questions because I didn’t understand where you was coming from. That alone causes miscommunication and understanding

Not we shouldn’t look to entertainers as teachers (not all the time at least. History has gave us some gems that I don’t mond listening to).

No we shouldnt place them on a pedal stool.

Kanye’s recent antics makes it difficult not want to kick his ass so I understand why people jumped on his neck. You know how social media is. We live in a sheep mentality society now of days. I have many things I can say that will fire up social media, but I do it in the classroom because it’s a controlled environment.

On your last point, that’s partially true. It’s not 100% our failure. Yes, we do have responsility in all this mental enslavement awareness, but we also have the white man who knows what mental enslavement is because they us it on their own people.

I’m going to say this many times over, but Black folks are vastly different in the US from region to region. Folks from NY aren’t the same from folk in the south, and folk from the South ain’t nothing like folk from the west coast. Our experiences in life are different, our environment is different. And we’ve yet to acknowledge that part. There has to be a mutual understanding and how likely is that to happen today?

I mean he may be. Who knows? He certainly doesn't seem receptive to anyone telling him otherwise. And who's gonna feel for an economically empowered, yet self absorbed dude? Nobody in the 99%, that's for damn sure. It's a cocktail for disaster.

Plus he ADORES and idolizes white culture and supremacy. How do we change that mindset? Is it even worth it? I'd rather champion my energy and finances into someone like Chakabars who's making real world change and progression.

The only other person I think would have some chance at breaking through to Ye would be Jay, and even he distanced himself away from him.

So where's that leave us?

And to negate ALL of this under the guise of, "that was a choice..."

.. is pretty brazen and callous in its own right.

Like I told the OP, I don't know if he can be saved or helped or whatever, but I've reached a point where his antics simply aren't worth the energy anymore. I respect his craft as a producer and he's ok, and I'll bootleg a listen now and then, but that's about it.

None of that genius talk in relation to music, and most certainly none of that when it comes to social issues.

He has a platform and what he says can be dangerous. That’s what I dislike about this new age.

Thoughts and ideas by someone who has a huge following can spread faster than anything we have ever seen.

Most of time a person doesn’t even have time to correct themselves. Kanye’s music gave him a huge following. That also gives him a base to say what is on his mind whether it’s through music or social media.

He is a self proclamined genius and those that call him one has never met a genius in the first place, so their standards are already low.

I'm starting to see a lot of people on youtube try to justify what Kanye said with the same "mentality" rationalization. I think they're all missing the big picture. People need to recognize that Kanye West has been saying and doing stupid irrational things for years. His idiotic statement is right in line with this behavior. I find it hard to believe that after all the ridiculous things he's said and done that he has finally found a moment of clarity and become this deep philosophical mind that can enlighten black people and show us the error of our ways. Nigga please. He's just being a dumbass. Nothing new here.

What did Tubman say in regards to her freeing more slaves ?

As I said, poor choice of words but what was his intended point ?
Bruh you're trying to hammer a square peg into a circular hole. Sometimes a dumbass is just a dumbass even if he's rich and a successful producer. Let's not over think it. What do you gain by supporting a fool that admires donald trump?

Again it isnt necessarily wrong if he was referring to those mentally enslaved in 2018...

Why are there new crackheads when the destruction has been evident for almost 40 years..

Why do we allow non blacks to open businesses in our communities

Why are there more liquor stores than schools in our communities

Why us meek mill treated as a returning hero but those who actually fought injustice still imprisoned over 40 years not mentioned.

Why is success trying to live with white folx instead of building up our communities...

Enlightenment isn't as wide spread as you believe

Why not just say all of that? See how easy that is?

Please quote me saying I support him ?

Point is shitting on him doesn't reduce the number of dumbasses.

Actual conversation does

People who try to be more enlightened than they are often run into difficulty. .

How many times have you witnessed people try to use big words misuse those words

Remember the acronym KISS

That question's rhetorical. I don't know if you're a supporter or playing devil's advocate. Feel free to clarify.

I agree completely! But this happened weeks ago. A celebrity with as much access as Kanye West would have gotten out in front of this and clarified it quick if indeed he was trying to be use allegory to explain why black people are in such a state today. I don't think I've heard him make that clarification.

I think he was talking about the slave mentality we live in and under in this current day!! I dont believe anything the media says or put out.. They can take the easiest thing and flip it anyway they wanna flip it!! And most people are under the spell of the media, they will gobble up everything the media says as true.. Just remember 94% of the people are under the spell, 5% of the people can see the bullshit being pushed on the people, 1% of the people are pushing the bullshit and they know they have the 94% right were they want them...Anyway, these so called entertainment stars know what they are getting into when they sign up for the fame and fortune!! This shit is all scripted distraction bullshit!!
Damn bruh, you The God now? Making up your own lessons or have you forgotten the lessons. “Ten percent of the people of the world know the truth of existence, and those elites opt to keep 85 percent of the world in ignorance and under their controlling thumb. The remaining percentage are those who know the truth and are determined to enlighten the rest. They are the Five Percent Nation.”. Did the teachings change?

As far as Kanye he has not tried to explain his words so why should we. He said what he said and now it’s Fuck Kanye all day every day.

Kanye is as arrogant as he is confused and uninformed. ...

Tell me your point.

Primarily that this should be a teaching moment and conversation starter.

It's much easier to pIle on and join the fuck Kanye crowd.

But we end up with just as many uninformed and misguided people as we had prior to him inserting his foot. .

The issue with Kaynes statement is that it aligns with the narrative being pushed by white apologists, racists and coons. It's like the violence in black neighborhood b.s. folks like to spout. Cause and effect is integral in these conversations.
Kayne took it upon himself to speak about a subject that he clearly has not been educated about.

So you're saying that Kanye's foolishness is an opportunity for black people to analyze their situation and make it better? Got it. I suppose that's a good idea. But doesn't it disturb you that this extremely elementary point is something people are just realizing for the first time? The need for black people to escape mental enslavement is a fact I've been aware of since I was a teenager. Kanye isn't breaking any new ground here. If black people don't know this already then we're in worse shape then I thought.

Doesn't it disturb you that black people especially need any reason to become aware?

Doesn't it disturb you even more that in this age of instant outrage people including black people get their thoughts framed by meme and social media often with no context. .

I read a meme that said the BPP was formed to protect black people from the KKK and it was shared a couple thousand times....

Yes awareness is needed no matter how disturbing the lack of it is...

Do you really think Kanye was referring to physical enslavement when he made that statement ?

Or was it really a matter of Kanye trying to be a deep cat but being unable to articulate his point clearly ?

And instead of getting him to explain himself, people took his statement literal and piled on....

Could he really have been talking about present times and people chosen to be mentally enslaved. ..?

And even though it would still be a poor choice of words it would change the context of what he was saying

My friend.
In my time on BGOL; I've come to regard you as an intelligent & often very insightful poster.:)
However; having said that, I honestly feel that you're giving WAY too much thought to the rantings of an uninformed, self absorbed, egotistical celebrity who thinks of himself as being intelligent.
My brother; how can you take seriously the opinions of ANY sane Black man that wants you to love and respect Donald Trump....? (Like Kanye wants us to) :hmm:

Also, ask yourself this question:
If Barack Obama had said to Black people back in 2008 that slavery was a choice, would you have even considered voting for him....?
No. You wouldn't...

So, please stop overthinking the rantings of a known lunatic and treating him like he's some deep philosophical thinker. He's not...:smh:

Finally, have you noticed a similar pattern with celebrity Trump supporters?
They say really stoopid shit about Black people and later backtrack claiming drugs & medication are responsible for their actions...

Isn't that the argument they use against NFL players and other athletes protesting...they are above it?

Didn't they just fuck up a nba player

Is anybody black ever above it ?

Do your children and those you are in contact with know the truth ?

Whose responsibility is it to teach truth ? Theis or ours ?

I've made this comment and posted these images before, but here were go again. Not everyone captured were adults with adult reasoning and coping skills. If someone snatched your child up and started teaching them their lot in life was to serve and obey, that they deserved it, what would they do? Kids barely know their name and phone number when they get lost in a mall, let alone when they get kidnapped, brought to a world they don't know or understand, surrounded by people in power with a language they don't speak. They were literally picked up and displaced to an area they stood out in because of their skin. Couldn't run. Couldn't hide. Had no friends, or shelter, no money, no clothing. When you were 8 or 12 or even 15 could you recite your history? Would you know enough to capture and hold on to that knowledge and pass it on? After decades would you even believe it when all you've ever known, all those who surround you have ever known, all those you can remember before you have ever known is slavery? We have people now who have never been outside of a 6 block radius. The only reality they know is the one they live and survive in.

We are only 13% of the population now. Far fewer back then. There was no social media and phone lines for people to communicate. They didn't have anyway of organizing beyond the single plantation they were on. It wasn't a matter of people having strength and networks we were refusing to use. Also slave revolts were happening more in the end. Even with someone like Nat Turner tho, we see how well that turned out.

Like self science said, you can't make choices you don't know you have. And I'll add to that choices and knowledge that was deliberately kept from us. And don't act like we didn't have black folks like in Tulsa who once free did separate and thrive and have it all burned to the ground by jealous whites because we were outnumbered and powerless under the law.
slave1.jpg slave2.jpg slave3.jpgslave4.jpg

And I'll just quote myself here....

Re: My poor grandparents came from Russia and made it in America so why can't black f

I haven't read through all the replies or watched the videos, (tho I will), so I apologize if I'm repeating anything that has already been said.

I think the mindset of U.S. blacks vs blacks from other countries are different. "Outside" blacks have what I call an "entitlement" mindset where they believe they are entitled and expected to have ownership(as they should), while American blacks tend to have a "permissive" mindset where we seek permission to take ownership.

They are coming from another country where they are surrounded and served by other blacks who own businesses and with knowledge of building wealth. In America's past, we often were not allowed to have ownership, except that which whites allowed. Blacks did not have their own wealth coming out of slavery. 40 acres and a mule didn't apply to us. In later times we couldn't get loans for homes or businesses. When we could get loans they were at higher rates than everyone else. We often couldn't get hired for anything other than domestic work, let alone go to college, which is why we have the historically black colleges in the first place. We had to create our own schools. Play the stock market? Yeah right. Only in recent years (past 30 or so) are blacks learning to invest, while white kids grow up learning about that stuff since birth.

There were blacks who went off on their own and built successful communities only to be burned to the ground. Whites were the land owners, the job creators. They had the power, the guns, the law on their side, regardless of whether or not were being lawful. At first it was a crime to teach blacks to read. Later, if you were smart and well read you were "uppity", and needed to be reminded to "know your place." Russians and others with white skin can lose the accent and be welcomed with open arms. Regardless of how well we speak, our skin still separates us, so we are seen as "other". Eventually some stop trying and it became collective wisdom that we can only go so far.

A lot of things have changed structurally, but not mentally. Knowledge is more available than ever before but there is a collective mindset that everyone black and white feeds from/into. Whites (and some blacks) see successful blacks as the "exception to the rule", assuming they believe that they obtained what they have legally. We don't have "success" as a normalized image for us collectively, even though we may actually be surrounded by successes and not just one or two exceptions. What's sad is that when blacks gain power in media, they often perpetuate those same dysfunctional hood images instead of putting out a counter image that shows the truth. This is why the Michelle Obama/French Elle article was so off base: the only image of blacks that reaches outside of America is the hip hop/video strippa/hood image, instead of normal day to day images. One reason I'm so glad that Obama is in the whitehouse is because it will help normalize an image of a successful, loving, BLACK family. That's also why they are so hated: they can't be ignored for the time being and their image is counter to the stereotypes whites want to use to justify their behavior and thinking patterns toward us.

Anyway, WE need to get on the entitlement bandwagon. I sometimes catch myself "waiting" for permission to do something. I have to stop and ask myself who I'm waiting on. Our cultural self esteem has long taken a hit where we don't feel we DESERVE wealth, so we only seek after the fast buck, or are content just getting by, or spend it as soon as we get it.

You can't compare Kanye West to some random ass athlete. 95% of the US population couldn't reliably pick Russell Westbrook out of a 10 man line up. 90% of that same group could pick out Kanye from 1000 people

The fact that this debate/controversy/foolishness, etc is attached to a clown like Kanye West (friend of Trump, husband of a Kardashian) instantly removes all credibility. If someone like Cornell West or Michael Dyson or hell even Sharpton or Jesse Jackson had said that I'd be waiting for an informed explanation of such an asinine statement. But coming from a side show like Kanye West its just plain stupid.
