"I hop that ass is ok...":(

*two cents*

Hope she is able to fully recover. Womens tennis hasnt been the same without her. In fact, once the Williams sisters retire, American womens tennis will cease to exist for a while, nobody to pass the torch to.

:( I bet it was birth control pills that did it :( and she's gonna have to be on blood thinners too :smh:

Apparently she had an injury to her foot that she was getting checked out, so I'm wondering if that maybe had something to do with it. I know lots of PE's start out in the lower legs region as regular clots and then work their way up.

thats interesting. the injury was cutting her foot on a piece of glass at a restaurant.

Oh, if that's the case, it's probably not the cause then. I thought it was maybe a training injury. The clots usually start inside...deep vein shit, so a cut wouldn't do it as far as I know.

Being laid up in bed and not getting up and moving around could though. I don't know if that what happened to her but I know PEs are serious because I was hospitalized with what they thought was one. The doctors told me it was more dangerous than a heart attack and made me check in the hospital immediately. They wouldn't even let me go home and get a few things. It turned out to be a pulmonary edema. Serious, but not nearly as life threatening. My prayers go out to Serena.

I hope she recovers fast, I'm not gonna worry about it. She'll recieve the best care her money can buy. She gonna be alright.

Yeah, I had one a few years back, and I'm still on blood thinners because they could never figure out why it happened. I wasn't sedentary, didn't have any lower limb injuries, etc.... but all the sudden I had bilateral pulmonary embolisms. Shit hurt like hell and I got lucky because I started feeling it on a Monday and didn't get a CT scan until Friday, because I thought I had maybe bruised something around my ribcage (could have killed me easily by then). My doc called me as soon as he got the results and said basically "get the fuck over to the ER mufucka!!!". I was on a heparin drip for a week until they got me on the right dosage of coumadin.... but to this day they don't know why it happened so I may have to be on that shit for life, even though I'm fine now.

it couldve been any of that shit and NONE OF IT.

blood clots breaking off and traveling through your body is some serious hit or miss kind of shit. it doesnt matter how active or inactive you are, or if you have none of the risk factors.

sometimes the shit JUST HAPPENS inexplicably.

That's how my high school classmate died. She played on the basketball team, and suffered a leg injury. About 12 years ago, she had a clot that went to her heart that stemmed from that injury.

Blood clots forming in the lower legs are the most common explanation for these types of events. The recent treatment of her serious foot injury and this occurrance are likely more than just a coincidence. It's the obvious place to start.
