Serena is now ranked number 10 and will be up against the number 2 ranked player (Simona Halep) in the next round... Even though she's 39 years old I'm still rooting for Serena but it's gonna be a very tough game for her on Tuesday, Simona is on top form.

.... oh, and Naomi Osaka also made it though to the last eight... could we see a Williams vs Osaka finals?

Naomi Osaka saved two match points and Serena Williams was taken to three sets as two of the favourites reached the Australian Open quarter-finals.

Having lost the opening set to Garbine Muguruza, Japan's Osaka was a break down in the second and faced two match points at 5-3 in the third.
But she won four games in a row to win 4-6 6-4 7-5 against the Spaniard, who is also a former world number one.

Williams then came through 6-4 2-6 6-4 against Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

The American surged into a 4-1 lead in an entertaining final set, before 22-year-old seventh seed Sabalenka broke back and levelled at 4-4.

But Williams held serve and then broke her opponent's serve to clinch the win and keep alive her hopes of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title.

"I am happy to get through that one because it wasn't easy," the 39-year-old 10th seed said. "I felt like I was there, even the games I lost were super close and just one shot here or there."

Williams will face second seed Simona Halep, who recovered to beat 19-year-old French Open champion Iga Swiatek 3-6 6-1 6-4.

It was the second successive match in which the Romanian has had to come from a set down, but she found form in the second set to edge past the Polish teenager in one hour and 50 minutes.

Halep said it was "tough" to think about playing Williams, whom she beat in the 2019 Wimbledon final.

"I will try to enjoy myself and I can only beat Serena if I play my best," she said.

I been cheering her on. Just pisses me off when she gets to the finals and gets rolled up. It's like she loses focus or some shit.

It's crazy what modern medicine/supplements/training/recovery has yielded with these athletes. We have Serena, Brady, and Lebron all doing it big after 20 years(close enough for Bron). Just nice to witness all this shit.

Just to old. The finals is tough for her because of the age difference

Well no matter what, Serena was gracious enough to bless us with this shot.....

She starts getting that bad body language and starts throwing her hands up on every point. She beats up on herself way too much DURING a match and she literally gives it away. I've seen her beat herself in the finals multiple times. Her opponent just wins by default because Serena starts double-faulting and spraying the ball all over the place.

It's still pretty remarkable what she's doing at this age. Her being in a solo sport makes it even more difficult because if she has a bad day there are no other parts of the team to pick up the slack. Being younger you could probably get away with it but not now. A lot of the early matches she use to win in straight sets are going 3 sets now. Hopefully she can get one more GS before she retires.

Nope. You have to be realistic. Really talented younger players have learned the way to beat Serena is to run that 39 year old big ass from side to side and tire her out. No doubt the desire is there but father time always wins eventually. :hmm:

39 is ancient in tennis. Plus she continues to have a ton of unforced errors. I want her to win, but I ain't holding my breath
I wish she will but I doubt it

Serena just won her quarter final match against the number 2 seed with an impressive straight set win.... Fingers crossed that she has the stamina to go all the way and win the grand final.... She meets Naomi Osaka in the semi-final on Thursday, it won't be an easy match for her.... I just want her to rightfully get the record for most wins... she can peacefully retire afterwards.

Damn she got Osaka in the semis... Damn! That's going to be tough.

Serena beat her a few weeks ago, I think Serena can beat her this time. Plus Serena lost weight, she's more fit.
Agreed. Serena didn't win 23 Championships by luck. She's a seasoned vet. Osaka is up next, or maybe the right now. I think this match will determine that. Serena says she doesn't plan on retiring after the AO no matter the final outcome. It should be a great battle. I just hope she doesn't hang around too long to the point where she is just a shadow of her former self like her sister.

Speaking of which, I wish Venus had better friends and people in her corner. They would tell her that she has nothing else to prove. She will always be remembered as one of the greats. But continuing to plays diminishes her "mystique." She needs to retire with dignity and honor and move into an analyst/ commentator role.

Fuck that. She has 2 more in her. Its just a race against time. As long as she keeps going deep into the majors, she should keep playing.

They were playing their all in a exhibition....seriously :hmm:
I guess you don't understand this tennis thing, the exibition was a tune-up for the Australian Open. They weren't playing around in the exhibition, they were going all out. Recognize.

Nobody thinks Brady is, dude can't even run a 40 in under 6 seconds

but how is Sareena, when nobody would consider the male tennis player the greatest athlete ever?

Shits fictional, and if anything it would be someone like Usain Bolt, Jim Brown or Bo Jackson
