Although Sophia didn't think twice about bringing her new playmate home with her, Benner said the cashier at Target asked the little girl if she had picked up the wrong toy.

"We both gave her a blank stare," Benner wrote in a post that's been shared more than 400,000 times. "I let the cashier know that she was a prize for Sophia being potty trained. The woman gave me a puzzled look and turned to Sophia and asked, 'Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?'"

Benner said the cashier continued to quiz her daughter and even told her that they sell other dolls that look more like her.

According to the mom, that's when Sophia spoke up and told the cashier that the doll does look like her.

“She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl," the child said. "See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?'"

The cashier eventually dropped the matter and Benner took to social media to share a photo of her daughter with a big smile on her face holding her new toy.

Bennertold CNNthat she was proud of her daughter for not paying attention to the doll’s skin tone.

“I just want to teach my kids love, and that’s included in my own actions,” she said.
