First off bro, pap smear results dont show HPV. They come back Atypical cells of unknown source (ACUS) with a grade. When you get this result you have to perform what is called colposcopy the colposcopy is when biopsies are taken from each quadrant of the cervix plus the cervical OS. They are sent to path lab. Path lab confirms if HPV and the specific strain. Ask her if you think I'm just talking...or show her this statement. After colposcopy confirms HPV and strain if it is the dangerous strain 16 or 18 or a few others the next option is cryo to the cervix. Liquid nitro is applied to the cervix indirectly in 2 rounds. 1st round is about 3 minutes. Let cervix thaw. 2nd round. If good freeze occured then all of the atypical cells will die and slough away practically stopping the chance of those cells becoming cancerous. And I am training under a really versed obgyn 28 years deep. He is a brother from the islands. I have learned alot. I am going to be his NP when I am done. So no I'm not an obgyn but I do alot of the stuff they do from endometrial biopsies to cystoscopy to IUD insertion and removal
