Dog Mauling Case Draws Attention To Presa Canarios
vWritten by Julie S.
As the famous California dog mauling trial draws to a close, the Presa Canario
dog popularity continues to grow steadily on the rise, because of the sudden
demand by people to purchase this "killer" breed animal. So why would anyone
want to own such a viscious and unpredictable dog as this type of breed is?
The answer is truly anyone´s guess to be honest. But one of the most likely
and obvious reasons has to be for image sake.
Some people just have to appear big and tough, and one sure fire way of doing
this, is by purchasing a huge and mean dog to put on the end of a leash. So
that the display of toughness can be firmly established and the fear factor
implanted from the onset.
Diane Whipple´s death was both untimely and tragic indeed. She didn´t deserve
to die so brutally, at the savage jaws of the male and female Presa Canarios,
who ripped out her throat and left her covered from head to foot with 77 gaping
bite wounds.
According to Prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Jim Hammer, the accused
defendants Marjorie Knoller and Robert Noel had prior knowledge of just how
dangerous their dogs were. Because both of them blatantly ignored the obvious
warning signs, as well as other incidents, which involved the two specific
dogs in near attacks of visible aggression on other people and animals.
Bane and Hera had a serious history of meanness and open aggression. So they
were indeed "time bombs" just waiting to explode and kill someone. It was only
just a matter of time, before they openly displayed their killer tendencies,
and unfortunately it was Diane Whipple who became their prey.
On Monday of this past week, closing arguements were heard in the trial of
Knoller and Noel, in which Hammer earnestly pressed the jurors to convict the
couple for their negligent part in the young woman´s grisly death. Hammer
painted Knoller and Noel has being cold-blooded liars. He said that the man
and wife were guilty of the charges facing them and that they shouldn´t be
allowed to just walk free. Because they both were aware of how dangerous Bane
and Hera were and didn´t do anything to confine the dogs. The San Francisco
couple was also warned on many separate occasions of just how savage their
"pets" were, but they refused to heed this knowledge, and seemed to overlook
the past incidents in question. If only the defendants had listened and not
ignored the reality of what their 140-lb. Presa Canarios truly were in essence.
Maybe Diane Whipple might still be very much alive today?
"It was perfectly foreseeable and they didn´t stop it," said Hammer of the
couple."They got off on in some way - power trips?"
Knoller, 46, is facing a charge of second-degree murder, in addition to
involuntary manslaughter and for keeping a mischevious animal. Though
her husband wasn´t present, during the time of the fatal attack on Miss
Whipple, he too is facing a charge of manslaughter based on the knowledge
of just how much of a threat the dogs posed to humans.
It is alleged that both Knoller and Noel, knew the clear and present danger
in advance, that Bane and Hera possessed but they simply did nothing about it.
"You don´t get a free mauling," Hammer stated to the jury. "They knew with
their own eyes what their dogs could do. They read about it, they heard about
it. They willfully ignored it, arrogantly."
Deliberations started yesterday to determine the outcome of the trial with
regards to Knoller and Noel. One thing for sure is that the verdict will
establish whether or not the dog owners were responsible for the killing
of Diane Whipple. A precedent which will definitely be a first in that
humans will be held accountable for a death caused at the hand of their
beloved "pets" as Bane and Hera were so affectionately dubbed by Knoller and
Noel.
"Do not let them get away with their lies. Do not let Marjorie Knoller get
away with murder," Hammer said to the jury. So now we will sit back and wait
for the landmark verdict to be be decided. Bane and Hera were more than just
dogs, they were "killer" dogs, so why would anyone in their right minds would
want to purchase these ferocious beasts? The answers to this question would
probably vary. But one thing, each and every one of these potential owners
better take into mind, especially in the light of this trial and all is the
fact that these dogs can´t be raised as pets. They´ve been proven to be
very efficient killers, and they are worser than loaded guns, because loaded
guns at least have a trigger. Presa Canarios don´t have this advantage and can
go berserk at any given moment with a thirst for blood. This is especially true
in the wake of the unexpected mauling attack on Diane Whipple, which not only
claimed her life, but shed some important facts on these mamooth guard dogs,
who aren´t bred to be your normal everyday domestic animal. Presa Canarios
are the definitive in one´s definition of "killer" dogs and then some. Why is
it that this reality is being ignored then? It tends to make one wonder about
the kind of people who would even consider buying dogs such as these ...
