Rumor is Epic will get Gingerbread 1st

Our favorite source has just tweeted this little tidbit which hints Samsung phones may be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread ahead of Motorola and HTC devices (sans the HTC Google Nexus One of course).

Android Gingerbread coming to Samsung Epic 4G, Captivate, Fascinate & Vibrant soon?

While only a rumor, he's usually spot on and the tweet does seem very plausible so we wouldn't be surprised if Samsung Galaxy S phones (Captivate, Fascinate, Epic 4G and Vibrant) will beat HTC and Motorola devices to Android 2.3.

In the statement, he explains that Samsung engineers have had a lot of time tweaking Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Samsung Nexus S (another Galaxy S device) and will go on sale December 16th at Best Buy.

So if you're wondering why Samsung hasn't bothered upgrading most of its smartphons to Android 2.2 Froyo yet then this could be the reason. Let's see if Samsung leapfrogs to Android Gingerbread before the holidays or not.

i hope so.
had the g4 from t-mo for about 3 weeks and was about to tell themn to send another to me in the mail to day
especially since I could have bout the tab for 359 not activation fee and had them send me the 4g for free.

still need to wait for the upgrade on the tab before I jump on it though

Aye retard the nexus one will get gingerbread first

Aye retard the Nexus S will get Gingerbread first.

And given that Samsung moved 7 Million Galaxy S phones this year and was named best cellphone in Europe, you better believe they leaned on Google to get them first dibs on 2.3

for the frustrated Galaxy owners who have been lied to since September I hope this turns out to be true. The Galaxy is such a nice phone but it had problems that needed fixing when I had it.

Yea man been waiting for 2.2 since Sept only got mine in late August but I hope this int no lie too.

Right... like they leaned on them to get froyo first. It doesn't matter what this dude says the carriers will determine when the phones aside from the nexus get it. Even if the source for samsung is released first they'll still have to include the touchwiz overlay which will take months. Doesn't really matter anyway because as soon as the nexus one gets it we will have it. And between the evo, the incredible and others...trust they didn't outsell htc

The only reason this is plausible is because Samsung already has the release source code since they DID develop the Nexus S with Google. However, Nexus One would probably still be first since it can be updated when the Source Code Releases.

Ignore that dude, he doesn't even have an android phone :smh:

2.2 OFFICAL hasn't even come out yet for Samsung, because while they have nice hardware, the software from Samsung continues to cause issues for millions of people using their phones. Now you wish to believe they will release Gingerbread first, to all these same phones that don't even have 2.2? Common, let's use some common sense here please!!

For some reason, I think its plausible that the SGS series will get an official Gingerbread update first. The drivers damn near match up perfectly already. The Nexus S is not a huge leap about the SGS. Plus with Samsung Kies, it'll be easier to deliver than OTA updates. I'll be watching this very closely. But I still got my money on devs bringing it first.

I think it's possible. When I had my Hero they skipped one of the updates and went right to the most recent one.

It's a lot different, because of TouchWiz and because of a sliding keyboard phone.

Vanilla android without a keyboard makes it a lot easier.

Yep.

Apparently HTC already has gingerbread and is supposedly trying to get an update out for the evo before Christmas. Like I said the nexus will get the first OTA and the evo will be after that.
