Before you go out and but that thin new MacBook Air, check out the new Samsung Series 9 Laptop which will come in to the shelves this Thursday. We first saw it at CES 2011 and the laptop looked like a little wispy black device. There were tons of product rollouts at the event and this laptop really hogged the limelight owing to the thin design. The specs inside are really unbelievable considering the thin chassis. We are talking about 13.3 inch laptop that is thinner and has a newer processor as compared to Apple MacBook Air.
With all this speed and miniaturization, you will have to pay a premium. The least expensive model of Samsung Series 9 has an Intel 1.4 GHz Core i5-2537M processor (Apple MacBook Air has Core 2 Duo chip with 1.86 GHz clock speed), four gigs of RAM, and SSD of 128 GB. The price is $1,649 and it is $50 more than the highest end version of Air.

The price will certainly surprise you because usually it is seen that Apple’s MacBooks are more expensive than the Windows counterparts even if they have the same specs inside. Samsung has paid a lot of attention to quality and it seems really impossible that the manufacturer has managed to put in all this hardware in such a thin enclosure. Of course, the manufacturer is making you pay more for the thin and sexy looks.
Samsung also said that they would be shipping one more sibling in the line of Series 9 around next month. It would be an ultrathin laptop with 11.1 inch screen size running Core i3-380UM processor, 64GB SSD and two gigs of RAM. Samsung hasn’t said anything about the price yet but the cost is rumored to be around $1,150
People who have seen the Samsung Series 9 laptop say that it is awesome to hold in the hand. It is really fast with boot speed of just 12 seconds. We don’t know how it fares against the Apple MacBook Air because we haven’t got it in our labs yet. Stay tuned on this blog for the full review which will be coming soon!
