Russian Hack During The Daily Show?

I caught this last night while watching The Daily Show and havent heard shit about it yet anywhere

Earlier tonight, the broadcast of The Daily Show was briefly interrupted by a blip of stock war footage, a spinning ballerina, and a web address with a Russian domain name. The internet quickly assumed that the late night comedy show had been hacked. It wasn’t.

Simply put this was a dumb publicity stunt designed to play on the fears surrounding the ongoing investigation into Russia’s interference with the 2016 election. The domain name that briefly appeared in the Mr. Robot-ish moment was thepresidentshow.ru which just leads to this Twitter account. There are three tweets in Russian that translate to:

  • Make night late again
  • Great things to come!
  • Make tv great again!
If that’s not obvious enough, a quick look at who owns the domain name shows that it was registered on March 29th by Viacom, Comedy Central’s parent company.
