:hmm:

Soooooo, Was it a "shakedown"?

$20 billion is a lot more than the $75 million liability cap created (by the govt no doubt) in response to the Exxon-Valdez disaster.

Republican fat cats are always yakking on about personal responsibility, except when your asking a big corporation to step up to the plate for their fuck up, they call it a "shakedown."

First he is ineffective has an executive now he is doing too much. Does the right have any credibility left. As predicted, siding with the capitalists. Where was the free market place self regulation preventing use of Blow Out Protectors? BP will use their free market money and hire $1000/hr TRIAL LAWYERS to litigate against the 'little people' for decades. Just like the Valdez!

Good old free market!

Would Ron Paul Do?

Nothing!

For you to even reemphasize the Barton/Limbaugh question would lead me to lump you with the wing nuts. What obligation was BP under to agree to this? They didn't have to. They have the vast resources of their legal department. As you stated, $75 million was their legal limit. Maybe because future investigations will have them libel for criminal negligence?

With all of your posts, I have yet to read your questioning of BP's lying on the drilling lease application. That they had the means to control a situation such as this with the advance technology of drilling for oil 5000 feet below the surface of the Gulf. Or the fact that they did not use available safety technology that could have prevented this. Which was made with cost savings. a free market tenet. Or that they did not reveal the actual amount oil spewing from the well. We still don't know for sure how much oil is coming out of the hole.

I understand you have no answers, most right wingers don't. Just accusations.

Thought, Yes or No: Was this a "shakedown"?

You answer my question, I'll give you a "free market" solution that 80% of the board will NOT refute! And, at the same time, expose a lot of Corporatists.

However, with you avoiding the question, it speaks volumes

No.
I don't see how this really has anything to do with the free market. BP should have had and the government should have made sure they had some procedures in place to prevent this type of calamity. Both failed.

Define shake down and I will give you answer.

Since you so freely use Socialism and Fascism as equivalences.

If a Chinese or Iranian company did this the CEO would be hung or face a firing squad. The problem with western multi-nationals is there is no jurisdiction or accountability. smh. Rush is a expert on everything but he can't keep a woman, hear or stay off drugs how can anyone take him seriously.

Does anyone think BP would put $20 bn on the table (knowing the cap is $75million) if "W" was still Pres? Be honest

Duh! They were in the room with Cheney and the rest of the oil industry back in 2001 drawing up the very energy future we are now subject to.

Waiting for that answer.
