Trump poses unique challenges for jury in his hush-money trial

“The problem for both Donald Trump’s attorneys and the prosecution’s attorneys is they’ve got to figure out how to pick a jury for the case who are neutral — and good luck,” said Steve Tuholski, a partner at Delphi Litigation Strategies who works on witness training and jury selection. “I can’t imagine there are many people, especially in New York, that haven’t made up their mind one way or the other about whether he’s a snake or the Messiah. There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground.”

Alvin Bragg Just 'Neutralized' Possible Donald Trump Witness—Ex-Prosecutor

Former Trump Organization finance chief Allen Weisselberg is led out of the courtroom during his sentencing hearing on Wednesday in New York City. He was sentenced to five months in New York City's Rikers Island jail complex on perjury charges.

Donald Trump could face prison time if he is convicted in upcoming NY hush money trial

But most legal experts who spoke to USA TODAY said such a dramatic outcome is unlikely. Instead, he would likely be sentenced to something between probation and four years in prison. And he would probably still be out, free to campaign for president as the presumptive or actual 2024 Republican nominee, while his all-but-certain appeal was pending.

Judge rejects Trump bid, rules hush money trial will begin on Monday

“Defendant appears to take the position that his situation and this case are unique and that the pre-trial publicity will never subside. However, this view does not align with reality,” Merchan wrote in the four-page ruling.

This is a trap, they will bait you into a conflict so they can do racist shit to you. I have been studying their tactics for awhile. Meanwhile they look like a victim being persecuted. This is dumb bringing up all these criminal charges attack Trump by black prosecutors.

No wonder DEI and affirmative action are gone now because of fools like this.

First 7 jurors seated, arguments could start next week

BY THEHILL.COM

Former President Trump is back in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday for the continuation of jury selection in his criminal hush money trial.

The process is expected to last a minimum of several days as hundreds of New Yorkers will be whittled down to 12 jurors with six alternates.

More than half of the nearly 100 prospective jurors in the first round of jury selection Monday were almost immediately excused after they said they could not be fair or impartial in a trial whose parameters date back to Trump’s 2016 election.

By Tuesday afternoon, that initial batch of 96 potential jurors that began their process the day before had been whittled down to 24.

Sadly, I think the Jail-time part is what Trump and his group is begging the Judge to provide.

Not quite sure how it helps him overall?

But you better believe that’s part of his game plan.

That sounds good in theory, but do you think his psyche can handle true confinement for any length of time?

Trump Forced to See Mean Memes About Him Shared by Prospective Jurors

MILES KLEE
APRIL 16, 2024

…One potential juror ruled out on Tuesday was a man who recently shared an AI-generated video of Trump saying “I’m dumb as fuck,” according to reporter Josh Kovensky of Talking Points Memo. The man had evidently tried to conceal his opinion of Trump during earlier questioning, per The New York Times, and protested that the video was only something he “reposted,” but Judge Juan Merchan dismissed him.

At another point, tweeted Tyler McBrien of Lawfare, the judge read a meme into the record that seemingly disqualified the would-be juror who shared it. The joke referenced the Thai youth soccer team dramatically rescued after they were trapped in a flooded cave system for more than two weeks in the summer of 2018, when Trump was still in office: “Trump invites the Thai boys to the White House, and the boys request to return to their cave.”…

Trump lawyers say Stormy Daniels refused subpoena outside a Brooklyn bar, papers left ‘at her feet’

A process server working for Trump’s lawyers said he approached Daniels with papers demanding information related to a documentary recently released about her life and involvement with Trump, but was forced to “leave them at her feet,” according to a court filing made public Wednesday. “I stated she was served as I identified her and explained to her what the documents were,” process server Dominic DellaPorte wrote. “She did not acknowledge me and kept walking inside the venue, and she had no expression on her face.”

Trump hush money trial judge scolds press after juror is dismissed over fears she had been identified

“I’m directing that the press simply apply common sense and refrain from writing about anything that has to do with physical descriptions, it’s just not necessary, it serves no purpose,” the judge said, according to pool report from the courtroom.

Man sets himself on fire outside Trump trial courthouse

BY ELLA LEE AND ZACH SCHONFELD

NEW YORK — A person has self-immolated outside the Manhattan courthouse where former President Trump’s first criminal trial is ongoing, police confirmed to The Hill.

The incident, which occurred in a park outside the courthouse where protests of Trump’s trial have taken place this week, drew a heavy emergency response. Ambulances lined the block where the person set themself on fire.

Videos of the situation posted on the social media platform X showed at least one person attempting to pat down the fire with a suit jacket, before another individual with a fire extinguisher put out the fire.

A witness told PIX11 News they were standing next to a man when he poured a flammable liquid on himself, told her to stand back and then lit himself on fire. The witness said he made statements of a political nature before the incident.

It’s unclear whether the incident is connected to Trump’s trial. In the same time frame, a full jury panel was officially selected to hear the case.

With 12 primary jurors and six alternates seated, the trial can move into opening remarks Monday.

The jury selection process lasted four days. Several prospective jurors, who were ultimately excused, expressed anxiety about serving on the high-profile panel given the media attention it is expected to receive.

Before moving on, Trump’s lawyers will discuss his possible trial testimony at a hearing this afternoon, where the judge will decide which topics prosecutors can cross-examine the former president about if he takes the stand. The process is intended to enable Trump to make an informed decision about whether to testify.

The topics span 13 different court determinations involving Trump in other cases.
Trump is accused of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money deal with an adult film actress made ahead of the 2016 election. He has pleaded not guilty.
