Rockets suspend Royce White

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets have suspended first-round pick Royce White for "refusing to provide services" required by his contract.

General manager Daryl Morey said Sunday that the team will continue to work with White in hopes of finding a resolution.

Last week, White refused his assignment to Houston's D-League affiliate. The 16th overall pick in the June draft has spent most of the season on Houston's inactive list while he and the team figure out how to handle his anxiety disorder and overall mental health.

The 6-foot-8 White missed the first week of training camp. He flew to Detroit with the team for the season opener and then traveled by bus to Atlanta and Memphis for games. But he soon stopped participating in team activities, saying his mental health took precedence over his NBA career.

Saying he hasn't been with the team for a month and a half anyway

As a friend, I understand his choices and that he has to live by them. Gotta support friends, no matter if they make wise decisions or foolish ones.

But as someone who's seen what he has seen, and knows the opportunities Royce has been given, it's like wow..I know in the long run that he is going to regret this sooner or later, even if he does believe his just cause...
 
this situation is all kinds of fucked up

but reading some of Royce's comments in the past it seems like he is holding the team hostage and refuses to report unless his demands are met.


damn shame cause by all accounts dude is talented and his NBA career might be over before it starts. No reason why this situation shouldnt be close to resolved by now. There was no lockout this season and both sides have had a enough time figure this shit out.

For all the money he is making...you get a therapist, get on some meds if necessary and your ass to work
 
Tell tale sign of deeper mental issues. He cant seem to acknolwedge or refuses medication that can help with this disorder.

The other part is he has been spoiled rotten because he is/was a talented ball player. Talented atheletes can sometimes compete with pampered rich little girls with ridiculous narcissism. Because anybody that disagrees with them is discarded. Celebrities, atheletes, the wealthy etc. You find a lot of yes men/women around extreme talent.

Being great in a specific task or talent can lead to very warped sensibilities in other areas.
 
That's a real shame. I understand the mental shit is hard, and a disorder.

But it is going to be a lot harder making life work being a 6'8" dude bagging groceries at the local market for eight bucks an hour.

Maybe he can make $50k a year riding from town to town on some bus driven b-ball league, but I bet his anxieties pop up then as well.

Future not so bright.
 
I wonder how much star players in the EuroLeague make. He may be shunned from the league like Rashad McCants from unc

He said he didn't want to go to Europe

And if you're allegedly scared to fly, going over there won't be any better. Especially if he's on a plane for hours.

If you watched the video you'd know that there's nothing 'lil' about his disorder...

...The boy is legitimately mentally ill... They shouldn't have drafted him in the first place...

...Not sure how he passed the various exams...

He didn't. He got picked by a team that figured they would be able to deal with it.

They can't.

He can't go over there because they definitely won't give a fuck about his mental issues. He can say what he wants about the Rockets but they've already been more considerate of him than a team over in Europe will be.
