RIP D’Angelo

The way things have been going recently in this country, I’ve been listening to “U Will Know” by Black Men United. It features a host of incredibly talented Black singers from our culture, and the message is both powerful and timely.

What makes this even more impactful today is knowing it was written and produced by D’Angelo, who we sadly lost today. This has always been one of my favorite songs that he created, and I want to honor him by sharing this anthem of Black unity and brotherhood in this moment.

A statement from D’Angelo and Angie Stone’s son Michael on the passing of his father:

“I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me.” “I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents thought me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that.” -Michael Archer II

To lose your mom and dad in the same year.....

Rest In Peace to the Brother D'Angelo. Very shocking indeed. His soulful music provided many great memories during the Soulquarians era and beyond. His signature style and delivery was featured on so many hip hop classics. He'll be missed, but his music will live on.

unreal

this was my dude...can't believe gone at 51....i still remember rocking the brown sugar joint in 95...

my big regret was not hearing him live...erykah badu was just in town and i said to myself 'man you got to get to these concerts when they come to town, you just never know when it's going to be the last one...for them...or for you'

r.i.p.

a couple of my jams were played in this thread already, i listened to them through and through today, got to add my third...from voodoo

the root...voodoo album broke him...an artist that loved the art but never the spotlight, but he had no choice once voodoo and 'how does it feel' hit the video airwaves...here's to your peace brotha

:crying:I literally had to take a day, told my job I needed the rest of the day, real talk they understood!

Rest in eternal brotha D' Angelo.

I cried for at least an hour, I think it was the totally of the three, when I heard Angie was gone I was blown away, when I heard Malcom Jamal was gone I couldn't wrap my head around it, but now hearing this my spirit couldn't hold it in no more. :crymeariver:

Prayers to his loved ones and a blessed journey to his soul.
