And she got to 10 #1s faster than any other female or solo artist in history. She was only beaten by The Beatles and Supremes. She's also the youngest artist to reach 10 #1s (which only 8 other acts have done).
She's the "artist of the century" so far.

Are records counted the same in this era as in the past, during the Stevie Wonder, James Brown era, if an artist had a number one song, he more than likely sold 1 million copies of that single. I think airplay was also figured into the equation.
Is the formula today the same as in the past, on average how many singles does an artist sell today when they have a #1 single. Someone educate the old man.

Apparently sales and airplay.And as we all realize most radio stations repeat the same 10 to 20 songs on a constant loop.So being catchy has something to do with it but the age of pay for play does as well.
Sad thing is she's coming to town soon with Cee-lo as her opening act.Everybody who I've told about the concert has a)been confused by the combination of Cee-lo and Rihanna and b)was excited when I told them Cee-lo was coming to town for concert and then got disappointed real quick when they found out that Rihanna was part of the show as well.

Talent and popularity are 2 different things. This generations taste in music is lacking because the average person that would actually listen to rihanna outside the club have never been exposed to better music and better talent. So yeah she'll get her #1s but as far as getting them for being really talented....

You have my condolences . I think I would listen to talk radio before i listen to what they pass off as music stations these days.They might as well put in a cd and loop it since they play the same 10-15 songs all day long.

Janet is a performer and talented show woman. He songs are also better songs as far as being better written.
Janet could also sell out arenas on the strength of her shows.
There are many people back in the day who put out good music or put on great shows or both that didn't have the purest voices.

This is not excatly an era in which original artists step up to the plate...I can not understand the hype about lady Gaga,she's Madonna all over again but Rihanna however has done some catchy tunes and she is sexy as hell,I gotta give her credit for that.
