Yooo. I was around then, loving the music scene, buying records and everything (including the Mary Jane Girls album which I still own today) and this is the FIRST time I am hearing this shit
I wore a Doo rag and everything but I was NOT down with this shit. This is when R&B started to lose alot of steam and rap was starting it's rise into the mainstream. I did dig The Time though
I remember that MTV shit and was not down with any of it either. Plus they weren't playing rap at ALL back then. I was Friday Night Videos and Video Music Box all the way in those days. Rap and Smooth Jazz for me. R&B was on it's way out of my life
