Your right people like Reverend Dr. C.T. Vivian don't get the appreciation or acknowledgement they deserve. Much of this is due to the government controlled media. Example Black Wall St is an event many black people never heard about. I had never heard about it until the internet. So imagine if there was no internet.
I'm a Baby Boomer and had never heard of this until 1995. Asked my mom about it, it happened during her lifetime an she never heard about it. An she read the paper everyday.
I saw Dick Gregory in the early 80s. He then spoke on this country and addressed it's penchant to lie about what its truly about. Why do they do that? The USA is everything that's good. Really? Controlling what you see and hear. Gregory then said America is the only country on the planet that lies about itself. Now imagine that was said 40+ years ago. Think its any better now???
People are directly influenced by the information they see and hear. Remember the movie Good Morning Vietnam? It exposed how the government manipulates the information its citizens are exposed to, its not our fault.
So when a Reverend Dr. C.T. Vivian goes virtually without recognition you know why... You want recognition? Acknowledgement? Easy get caught smoking a joint or buying a bag. Because he was right there with MLK and John Lewis but never got the recognition for his efforts until President Obama recognized him.
Ever see an article addressing the number of militia groups that popped up after President Obama was elected? Maybe Ebony and Jet magazines didn't fulfill what was needed or wanted by black people today but we need publications to replace them. Something to keep us informed to the good and bad that's a part of our lives. We need another Emerge type publication.
We have to understand no one has "positive interest" in what we accomplish, do say or say except us. Meaning we need to blow our own horns. Stop waiting on others to recognize who we are. They don't care. The foundation to start already exist. The talent is on hand.

Media is invited to cover C.T. Vivian’s last mile on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at the Georgia State Capitol Building (206 Washington St SW, Atlanta, GA 30334) where he will be “Lying in State.”
Dr. C.T. Vivian, legendary civil rights icon, died at age 95 on the morning of July 17, 2020 at his home in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Vivian was known as a “Man of Movement,” working closely with Martin Luther King Jr. C.T. was awarded the highest medal of honor, The Presidential Medal of Freedom, by President Obama in 2013.
11:15a.m.- The casket will leave Willie Watkins Funeral home (1003 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW, Atlanta, GA 30310)
11:30a.m.- The casket is set to arrive at the State Capitol Building where it will be moved into the rotunda
12:00 p.m. - The Vivian family will be received by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, in the governor’s office. They will then be escorted by the governor to the casket.
12:30p.m.- Georgia NAACP President, Rev. James Woodall will open with a prayer followed by Al Vivian, son of C.T. Vivian, who will speak for the family and closing comments by Gov. Kemp.
12:30-3:00p.m.- C.T. Vivian’s casket will be “Lying in State” covered by the Georgia Flag.
3:30p.m.- The casket will then be moved across Capitol grounds to a horse-drawn open carriage. The carriage will proceed north on Piedmont to the historic Auburn Ave where they will travel east.
4:10p.m.- The carriage will arrive in front of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) National Office (320 Auburn Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30303) where they will pause for a photo opportunity. C.T. served as The National Director of Affiliates and strategist for every Southern Christian Leadership Conference organization.
4:30p.m. The procession will conclude in front of Martin Luther King Jr. tomb located in The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park. C.T. worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.
Over the 5.5 hours, there will be ample stops along the way that will provide excellent photo opportunities featuring historic Atlanta landmarks.
If you intend to publicize this information before the proceedings, please advise those that plan on viewing these activities in person to act with the upmost respect for Dr. C.T. Vivian by practicing social distancing and wearing a mask.
