I just got this in from the National Black Chamber of Commerce. Don't sleep, this is what Republicans try to do when they have their way:

Last Saturday night at midnight the Dark Side made an attack on the minority and women owned businesses of the United States. Freshman Congressman Timothy Walberg (R – Michigan) entered an amendment to the Defense Bill authorizing the termination of all affirmative action programs regarding minority and women business. This would have decimated the lives of business owners, jobs of millions and the economic stability of many American communities. Fortunately, Small Business Committee Chair Nydia Velazquez (D – New York) was on her “A Game”. She rallied the allies and this amendment was defeated 126 – 284. One third of Mr. Walberg’s party mates walked away from his evil plot and voted against his amendment. This is historical. Please view the results of Roll Call 841 and see how your congressman voted. If he or she voted “No” consider them your ally. If he or she voted “Aye” they are against the very being of your business and will try to shut you out of federal procurement – this is no ally. If they didn’t vote you should find out why. Write your congressman commending their “No” vote or criticizing their “Aye” vote. You can be a political activist or a political victim; there is no in between. Review the votes (here ).

I don't necessarily agree with this addendum.... but I do want to point out the fact that "women" get a lot of these contracts. White males, encourage their "white" wives and girlfriends to create companies and apply for contracts under affirmative action....I know, because I worked for one years ago.

The whole matter of affirmative action needs to be re-asessed by us black folk. We don't consider or even realize that women are an included category in today's affirmative action. We don't even consider how competitive the business world is and any advantage you can accrue yourself, get's you easily into the next higher slot on the food chain..

The whole thing with women moving up in economic parity with men is driven by the fact women have "priority" in the hiring process. The same applies to government contracts.

It may not be a problem for some now, but I can guarantee its gonna be a problem if you're in corporate work.

I once had a lady promoted over me for a position ....and I knew as well as every else, she did not have the same qualifications I had. I worked my usual 50 hours a week,.... she was a single mother with 2 kids and was always out the door as soon as the whistle blew. She did not have the number of special projects I had, neither did she did not make the number of out of town trips I did.....Ain't no way in hell, she brought more to the business table than me.. But she got the promotion... I didn't...The rationale was... you have a black man... and you have a black woman.... promote the black woman...

There is a difference in AA applied to college admissions and AA applied to the business community. They don't work the same way nor do they give the same results.

Ya see.... white folk figured it out years ago. Just get your wife or girlfriend to "organize" a business on paper and apply for a contract. She gets the same priority as black people. She's qualified for minority set aside contracts too...For white man... he still gets the money... maybe not personally to him... but it still runs into his household....

In the future, whats gonna happen when more mexicans approach the government contractor business. Is it gonna mean less for black businesses??? In another 10 years, We blacks won't be the largest minority population in the U.S... It will be Latino's and those who speak spanish....

I'm sure some of you guys don't know what the hell I'm talking about. But I can guarantee you, I'm talkin straight facts. When you have the opportunity to experience it first hand.... I can assure you, it will be a real eye opener.

I partially read it when it dropped, but read it fully on my last/recent business trip. . .turned my fuckin' stomach. Heads BETTER WAKE UP! They have ZERO intentions of STOPPING.

Anyway an aside here; Does anyone KNOW if publicly traded companies get tax write-offs for dealing with minority owned businesses? I vaguely remember something like that and will LOOK myself. However, if anyone knows the answer . . . reach back.

Just read some reviews on this book, it looks like a good read. I'm going over to Border's tonight and pick it up.

Also, I would recommend that everybody subscribe to the National Black Chamber of Commerce's email blast. That organization has been doing some great things in getting contracts for brothers and sisters in New Orleans and in setting up trade agreements with Africa. Harry Alford and his crew are putting in SERIOUS work!

Don’t understand a bill, you’re joking? You say Paul has a brain, yet you give him an out by saying he doesn’t understand “a bill”. Isn’t he a medical doctor? Furthermore congressman, senators not to mention the president have the greatest resources on the planet to research an issue. They have access to information out of the ass as well as staff people to explain. Then it boils down to the person’s decision, which will take into account their personal views and ideology of the world. This will expose the person to what their character is actually about. Paul doesn’t want to have a record in which people can establish a picture of his personal beliefs, at least on his true racial issues. Again this proves he is not a unique thinker, just someone who wants to preserve the status quo (white male privilege).

This is a technique I have noticed that the republicans are using of late. When Samuel Alito was chosen for the Supreme Court by Bush, it appeared that one of the reasons they carefully choose him was that he had little written personal opinions other than his court opinions. The one thing that tripped him up was his membership in an organization called Concerned Alumni of Princeton which was known to include preventing women and minorities from entering an institution that had long been a bastion of white male privilege. He was question about this during his conformation hearings. His claim was that he didn’t remember (laughable). Many republicans are trying not to make this mistake again, hence the lack of hard hitting questions and responses in the current republican presidential debates.
