Sam_Bradford_Contract_Rumors_25_Million_Eagles.jpg

Quarterbacks have all the leverage in the NFL when it comes to contract negotiations. But Sam Bradford's reported demands from the Eagles were a bit out of whack with the current market.

Appearing on NFL Insiders Wednesday, ESPN's Jim Trotter reported, via The Big Lead, that Bradford wanted a whopper from Philly in his most recent contract chatter, asking for $25 million a year when discussing a contract with Chip Kelly.

"One of the reasons Chip didn't try and extend Sam right away, I'm told, is Tom Condon, Bradford's agent, came in asking for $25 million a year," Trotter said. "Well, that's not going to fly in Philadelphia. Now the question becomes what is Sam going to want going forward?"

We don't have any way of knowing when this reported $25 million demand was made, although reports did emerge in August about Bradford and the Eagles working on a contract extension.

Kelly traded Nick Foles for Bradford at the start of the 2015 league year before revamping his roster in free agency. (Aside: Chip's GM moves led to his downfall, but let's not pretend trading Foles for Bradford mattered in the long run vs. the alternative.)

Many people said Kelly could keep Bradford healthy for a full season and the quarterback could thrive in the Eagles offense. Bradford showed flashes at times but wasn't the answer in Philly, throwing for 3,725 yards and only 19 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. He made some extremely questionable decisions throughout the season, particularly in the red zone, and also dealt with a shoulder injury that caused him to miss two games.

If Bradford had blown up and threw for, say, 27 touchdowns and just two picks (numbers Foles achieved in just 10 games in 2013) with great yardage numbers and a 10-win season for Philly, maybe this discussion is different.

Maybe. Kelly would still be coach, the Eagles would be full of optimism and Bradford's future would be subject to serious scrutiny, for much different reasons.

But Bradford getting $25 million from the Eagles with no production on the field just wasn't going to happen.

What's wrong with asking...

Word.

First rule of negotiating is start high. His agent Tom Condon is a motherfucker but even he knows he can't pull of $25 a year for same. I suspect he's trying to get in that $15 range.

Sam was the last number one pick before the rookie wage scale. So he was the last rookie to negotiate a huge contract and he banked every bit of that $78 million that averaged out a little north of $13 a year. So of course his agent is going to try for a raise in annual salary.

I'd tell both he and his agent to kick rocks but hey business is business.

He bought a home out there somewhere. Give him that bread. 97.5 aka Eagles stan radio would talk about this contract the whole summer.

Sam like fuck you pay me.

I give him a 2 year with a team option for the third but no where near 25 million per season.

I'm still waiting on a reporter to ask him how he feels about the term Redskin.

That would be JaMarcus.

Bradford balled his first year in the league.

Jamarcus contract was baby money compared to Bradford tho.

32 mill guranteed vs 50 mill guranteed not to mention Bradford completed his whole damn contract so he got the non guaranteed money too lol

Jamarcus Russell - 2007 cut three years later
6 year $61 million ($32 Million guaranteed )

Sam Bradford - 2010
6 year $78 million ($50 Million guaranteed)

I meant JaMarcus was the one that made the issue the focal point of the CBA.

Jamarcus Russell - 2007 cut three years later
6 year $61 million ($32 Million guaranteed )

2009 Matthew Stafford QB Detroit Signed 6 years, $72 million ($41.7M guaranteed)

Sam Bradford - 2010
6 year $78 million ($50 Million guaranteed)

The guaranteed money went up every year for qb's.

Bradford (Stafford the year before him) was the last qb taken before the new draft slotting went into place.

New CBA went into effect 2011 draft.

Issue is, what other QBs are there out there? He's gonna get a big ass contract either in Philly or somewhere else.
You're a shit organization, stop acting like it. Bradford isn't that guy to start over with. The problem with eagles fans are their beliefs that they're a good organization, and they're always in contention. Do yourself a favor and rebuild properly. But when you have roseman making all your football decisions, ... Good luck.

What's wrong with asking...

Nothing at all. Especially if I gotta play in Philly? And Chip Kelly? I would've asked for more shit. And if i'm not mistaken didn't they offer him 16 mill and he turned it down or some shit?
