I don't know about America's downfall, but I would rather see different regions split off into their own countries with an EU type agreement between them.

You'd have free trade, travel, residency, and work privileges between nations. They would share currency, continental defense, a basic human rights agreement and everything else up to the state/countries.

As America's empire keep slipping away and I think that this is inevitable.
 
The same things that brought down the Roman Empire and greatly diminished others like Britain, Germany, Belgium, and France are the same things that are greatly weakening America in the eyes of the World. Arrogance, militarism, racism, genocide, exploitation and internal political and social rot will ensure this nation's fall from the level of prominence it has enjoyed for over 200 years. Or simply put, "what goes around..." :hmm:
 
Interesting question, many folks during the Civil war era believed it was God's retribution for all the vile sins of slavery...Many also held the belief that if this country did make full and complete amends and restitution for the evil inflicted upon African slaves and their descendants..there would be other wars and calamities that would completely end the u.s. as we know it.

They don't.

if the United States were to go to war Britain could choose to join in without France or Germany having to suit up. However, Idaho would not be able to opt out. That is a huge difference.

Sounds like military and economics are the only distinction.
 
The days of the United States of America has been dead for years. Because now there is no America at least not from an independent Nationalist point of view. Now we have China financing and investing billions of dollars in the States, America having businesses and factories in Germany, Russia having businesses and factories in Peru, Nigeria having businesses and interest in Sweeden.
So basically it would be impossible for one major superpower economically to go down and not bring down the entire system.
However, once the system goes down, then you will see famine, wars, senseless killings, destruction worse than any other time in the history of mankind.
I've been studying world economics and how the world works and the more I learn the more I realize how fucked we are if anything goes left. What's scary is this whole Corona pandemic might turn out to be the straw that breaks the camels back.

those distinctions are absolutely huge though. They can make the difference in trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives.

There's other matters. For instance, there is no reason why a landlocked States like Iowa or South Dakota should have an equal say on immigration as border states like Washington, California, and Arizona. Likewise, why do we have the DEA enforcing the wildly different drug laws of Alabama and California? Instead, why not let both States become sovereign nations and enforce their own laws the way they see fit?

same thing applies for universal healthcare, agricultural subsidies, highway maintenance, defense budgets, etc.

You're probably right about the inevitability of regions becoming sovereign but it won't last long. The whole world can see how this country is faltering and you can best believe that any kind of fracture will be pounced upon by other stronger countries that will want a piece of the pie. They can respond by realizing the whole is much stronger than its parts or bend on over for a foreign power.

People think that China is going to save us from the evil white man, or our brown Arab brothers are going to treat us nice. For all its faults, the west is the best option. You have never heard anyone anywhere every in life say "I want freedom and opportunities, so I'm thinking of making a move to China or Saudi Arabia"

I doubt it.

For one thing there would still be a shared national defense. Someone bombs Milwaukee we all jump in.

In terms of industry it's even less likely. The sovereign States would be able to cut an enormous amount of red tape and make changes at the speed of the market. For instance, Maine could pass a bill allowing a larger maple syrup exports without having to wait for Alaska to sign off on it.

Taking over the government Russian style would be far more difficult. For starters every sovereign state would free to choose its own government structure, limit the power of their president, and decide how campaign donations are used, if any. Even a sovereign state copied the US system verbatim whoever hacked it would still have a lot less influence than they do with Trump today.

I guess most of it depends on how the separation happens. If it involves a long, bloody civil war where roads, railroads, and factories get bombed then yes, everyone will pounce on the pieces.

On the other hand, if it's a gradual system where states slowly become more autonomous until they reach independence then I see it making the country stronger.

Exactly. People are acting like China didn't just put an entire ethnic group in camps for "re-education" aka torture and organ harvesting. :smh: People really want to believe our experience here is an outlier because of how terrible cacs are but nobody has love for us anywhere really.
