My son is 16 and he's being recruited right now. He plays Basketball. I'm going to give you some real advice for your son, it will apply in his later years.
1) Always be honest with your son. When he plays poorly, say so. Then help him fix it. When he plays well, say so as well.
2)Let him know that his friends/acquaintances will tell him what he wants to hear. But you will always tell him what he needs to hear.
3) Let him know that your job as a Dad isn't just to buy him things. Your job is to make sure that he can make a good decision when you are not around. Poor decisions can come with dire consequences. Think before you act...
