I know a lot of people probably not fucking with the little homey Ray J. But I've decided that after the work he put in with KK he's official (n/h). Here's an interesting little Q&A from Rhapsody.

For most of his decade-long career, the public’s interest in Ray J has drawn much focus – just not on his music. They’ve fixated on him being Brandy’s little brother; his alleged (or confirmed – you decide) relationships with Kim Kardashian, Whitney Houston and Lil Kim; and especially on his infamous sex tape with Los Angeles socialite Kardashian. Meanwhile, Ray J (born William Ray Norwood, Jr.) has quietly developed into a legitimate pop and R&B hitmaker, with a discography wherein each of his three albums has outsold the prior, and now (as of this writing), hit #3, “Sexy Can I.” Rhapsody caught up with the singer when he came through MTV's TRL studios. While he meticulously combed his own hair, Ray discussed, among other things, Lil Kim’s influence on his new album, All I Feel, T-Pain’s comments about his um, meat, and his relationship with The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.
How did Lil Kim inspire you to get focused for the album?
She was the one that got me back mentally focused on my writing. I started recording [the album] at her house in L.A. She was actually working on her stuff, and I came in and started working with her producers on the late night and just started getting records in. She started helping me create and come up with concepts. It was a good turning point for me.
What were some of the songs that came out of those sessions at Lil Kim’s house?
“Sexy Can I” starting out. One of her writers, Sha Money, and myself wrote the song together. We did a few more that didn’t make the album, and “Where You At?” with Game.
You've recorded for a major and have also had a good amount of success on independent labels. Are artists exaggerating when they say they’re getting $7 an album from indies?
If you getting $7, that’s the best you can get. That’s what we getting [partnering with] Shaquille O’Neal’s [Deja34 Records, based on] the success of the last album. But you gotta recoup [the advance money] first. “Sexy Can I” being the number one ringtone in all formats and the digital sales being at 125,000 a week, we kind of already made all the money back off that one single.
Beanie Sigel recently said he only gets 14 cents per album he sells.
That’s crazy. But he probably made his money off shows. Who knows. Everybody’s deal is different. My normal figure is more than that. Maybe he was just saying that. [Laughs.]
Are there good stories from you and Yung Berg being on the road promoting “Sexy Can I”?
Probably the wildest is, lately, girls [are] putting H2O in their bodies and then having [it] shoot out like waterfalls. And it wasn’t just a little bit. You had to step back because the water was shooting everywhere. They’re very talented. Unk, Baby D, Berg and I in St. Louis in this penthouse. The whole Koch crew was in that mug. They rented out this room for us and just brought [the girls] in. I directed that. I was like, "Yo, we gotta do something different. Why don’t ya’ll take this gallon of water and pour it inside of you and let that sh*t shoot out." She was like, "Okay." She sucked her stomach in a little bit and just pushed [it] out. It damn near got on my pants. I was 10 feet away.
Berg threw some shots at Bow Wow on “Do That There.” What’s with that?
I don’t know. That’s the homey’s problem. I'mma ride with him though. The homey felt like he needed to speak on it and that’s what it is. I just seen Envy last night and he told me what was going down. But Berg is my dude. Bow Wow cool, too. Bow Wow probably gonna hit me and see what’s going on.
How important do you think radio still is to breaking songs?
I think it’s still important. We got a few more years with it being used to break records. I think television right now is probably the most important thing. Look at the MTV show with Puff and Day26 and Danity Kane. The visual drives those records. You barely hear those records on the radio, but people going to buy the album because they see them every week [on TV].
Where do you put yourself in terms of your R&B contemporaries?
I’m the number one young independent boss of R&B. I don’t think nobody is independent in R&B but me that’s doing it on a scale like this. So I think I’m in my own lane as far as being my own CEO, executive producing my own project, and shooting my own videos. It’s all about people believing what you say, the concepts I’m touching on. People are believing it the same way people would believe Usher or R. Kelly.
Where do you put yourself in comparison to younger guys like Chris Brown or Omarion?
You can’t compare Chris Brown or Omarion. You’d have to throw them in there with Usher and R. Kelly right now. Everybody is a major-label artist. I do whatever I want, say whatever I want, and sign all the checks. With all of them, they’re just artists. With Usher and R. Kelly though, those are the dudes that paved the way for everybody.
What did you think of T-Pain’s comments about your meat being huge?
[Laughs.] It was a little pause. But at the same time, him being such a talent, he could’ve dissed me. But he gave me props. So I can’t diss him for that.
Have you seen him since he made that comment?
Yeah, one time. We just said what’s up. I think he caught flack from that on the Internet so I don’t think he would ever go there again. [Laughs.] DJ Clue called me like, "Yo, son, you see what T-Pain said? I’mma send you the link." Everybody was hitting me.
You have often been photographed with Suge Knight. How did you get cool with him?
I’ve been knowing Suge since I was 10. Snoop and Daz used to come pick me up every day and take me to Can Am [Studios]. I used to tell people I’m going down the street. I used to hop in the back of Snoop’s car. I would just be up there all day. I been knowing Snoop since I was 12. I was with Death Row throughout the whole movement.
What was the craziest thing you ever saw at Can Am?
We walked in one day and Faith was sitting on Pac’s lap while Pac was writing a verse. It was like, "What the f*ck is going on?" That was one of the craziest sights, dog.
That really happened?
Faith was in Pac’s lap. I was like, "What the f*ck? I know I’m not? Is that? It can’t?" Three weeks later, “Hit ‘Em Up” came out. There's a couple of people that came up out of that camp. Bow Wow was in Snoop’s camp. Keyshia Cole was always through Death Row in her younger days. I used to see Keyshia all the time in there with Pac. I’m not hating on nobody. I got love for Faith. That was unbelievable, during the time of the East Coast-West Coast beef.
What was your favorite memory of Pac?
I always just hung out with Pac and smoked and chilled. He always used to give young n*gg*s advice to just work hard and never give up on your dreams.
Pac was smoking with you when you were 15?
God damn right. He didn’t know. It was going down in Can Am. You didn’t need an ID in that m*th*rf*ck*r.
What’s a funny story you had with Pac?
He was just a funny dude. He always cracked jokes on whoever had bad breath or nappy hair. I used to spend more time with Snoop and Suge. [Snoop] used to come pick me up, and I’d tell my dad I’m going down the street to do my homework. I would just come back later and pass out.
How did you find out Pac was shot?
I seen Pac the day before they left. Suge bought Snoop, Pac and Dr. Dre Rolls-Royces. I think they all caravaned. The last thing Pac said was, "Aright, little homey, we out." A day later I found out he got shot.
Were you around when Biggie got shot?
I was with Big two days before he died. I smoked two or three blunts with Big. We watched a Lil Kim video. He talked to me about some real sh*t. He was gonna get on the remix for “Everything That You Want” off my album and then two days later he was dead. He invited me to his hotel. Cease picked me up.
How did you link up with him initially?
He did some sh*t on [Brandy's TV show] Moesha. So [his crew] came up like, "Biggie wanna get you high." We sat back and smoked. I got his number. The n*gg* hit me the next day to come to the hotel. So me and my homey went up there and chilled. I was about 16. The day he died, I seen him with Puff. I tried to say what’s up to Puff, but Puff didn’t see me. Then I seen Big and he was like, "What’s up, my n*gg*." I hugged Big and the n*gg* smelled like soap. That’s all I remember. He just smelled fresh like, "Damn, he a big n*gg* but he smell like soap."
So Big was real cool?
Big was hella-cool. He was talking about how big Lil Kim was gonna be. And that was right when that video came out for “Crush on You.” He showed me the first version of that. I walked in [his room at at the Four Seasons] and the n*gg* had some shorts on and a tank top getting his hair cut. He was just a real n*gg*.
Why do guys like Kay Slay or Suge relate to you so well?
They know I didn’t grow up in the suburbs. Brandy and myself stayed in Carson. That’s two minutes away from Compton. Everybody on the West Coast -- from Suge to Snoop to Michael Conception -- know my movement. They know how I lived. That’s why we can all bond like that. We didn’t become successful until [Brandy] was 16 or 17. So throughout all the rest of our time, we was struggling trying to get on.
What bothers you the most in terms of gossip about you?
I don’t know. A lot of people think of me as being an attention whore or a slut. And I’m not really that. I love being in front of the camera and entertaining. But I do respect women. I’m not disrespectful to anybody that I’m cool with. I just want people to know that I’m not a disrespectful pedophile.
Is that why you have a Trojan condom deal?
They gotta ink it. We’ve been trying to work it out for a minute. I’m supposed to design a pack. I mean, you know the condom gotta be extra large. Ain’t no designing on that. [Laughs.]

interesting. that shit about Faith is crazy! I believe it. I didnt before, but I gotta say, this kinda changed my mind.

 @ Ray J clowning Beanie Siegel AND :smh: @ Faith--the truth comes out yet again. I'm not a Tupac fan, but everybody who knew him out here knew he wasn't a lying man

"My Manolo hoe, my Versace hottie/
Come to find out, you was fuckin everybody/"

"You feel me?Suckin dick, runnin your lips/
'Cause of you, I'm on some real fuck a bitch shit/

The interview is about Ray J, yet we talking about what he said about faith, and big

Nigga think because he fucked Kim Kardashian he's a superstar or some shit. He ain't shit. Punk ass mother fucka.

And any dumb ass who buys his music has to be a stupid, ignorant ass mother fucker.

What was Faith supposed to do. BIG had Charlie Baltimore and Lil Kim in his inner circle - two well well well known whores - before, during and after they blew up. Plus the way he pulled Faith was suspect anyway - he knew what he was getting.

I never knew of the T-pain comment...this confirms my original thought of him being quite suspect :hmm:
