Ravens’ Tray Walker dies from motorcycle accident injuries

Tray Walker was just beginning his NFL career, but Friday evening he succumbed to injuries suffered a day earlier when his motorized dirt bike struck an SUV in the Liberty City area of Miami. He was 23.

Walker’s agent, Ronald Butler, confirmed Walker's death Friday.

The 6-2 cornerback was a fourth-round pick of the Ravens in the 2015 NFL Draft, becoming the highest-drafted player selected from Texas Southern since Joe Burch was taken in the third round of the 1994 draft. Walker appeared in eight games last season for the Ravens, mostly as a special teams player.

"Tray was a young man with a good and kind heart," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. "He was humble and loved everything about being part of the Ravens' team. He loved his teammates, the practice and the preparation, and that showed every day. He was coachable, did his most to improve and worked to become the best."

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco called Walker "a young man who was full of energy and promise."

"This is very hard to wrap my head around, and I am devastated," Flacco said. "As a parent, I cannot imagine what his family is going through right now. All of my thoughts are with them. My hope is that we can be a little bit of help by being a second family for them."

Safety Terrence Brooks said in a statement that Walker "will never leave my side" and that he would "fully dedicate my season to Tray."

"It hurts my heart that he's not getting the chance to show the world just what type of man and football player he was going to be," Brooks said.

Walker went to Miami Northwestern High School, where he was teammates with Raiders receiver Amari Cooper and Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Walker's accident occurred about 7:50 p.m. Thursday. Police said Walker's bike did not have lights and he was wearing dark clothing. He was taken to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 5 p.m. Friday.

Harbaugh penned a heartfelt letter to his team Thursday after the accident and warned his players to "consider your actions and choices" because "there are always consequences."
 
Damn. Read about this earlier today and was hoping he'd pull though, but the situation sounded dire at the time. No helmet either from what I read. :smh:

Damn. Rest in peace brother. I don't know the circumstances of the accident, but folks ot there gotta be careful on those bikes. The driver behind or in front of you might not have you in mind.
 
my other homeboy #respekfresh died on a 4 wheeler in Miami last month. I always hear about Phillys dirt bike movement but i dont think no city in America has it like Miami. Dat shit is like a plague coming down the street. Go on youtube and check any of the Martin Luther King day parade Dirt bike vids, its just thousands of street illegal bikes. RIP young man, horrible way to go out

Round here we call them death machines. Throughout the years I've seen way too many dudes get killed on them. When I first knew someone who got killed I was 15, dude was my age. He was riding real fast and a car pulled out, he flipped over the handle bars and hit a stop sign with his back. I couldn't believe how that stop sign was bent from just being hit only by a human body. He died a day later. :smh:

My lil brother came home one day and told me of an accident he saw with a leg, then an arm, then the helmet with the head still in that mofo. Ever since then I ain't fucked with motorcycles, and I was 14 when I heard that shit.
