Started with the Mafia. That is how they brought everybody down including the boss and people who didn't get their hands dirty.
Now it is Gangs and Political Organizations like Black Panther and now BLM.
Theory is if you are a member of a organized crime gang, you have influence and help make decisions.
So even if you didn't commit the crime, you knew about it, had a decision in it and allow it to happen since you are a member of the organization which is dedicated to crime.
So my advice would be never to claim that you are a member of a gang. Do not walk around with a lot of criminals.
That seems to be the hardest thing to do in the rap world.
Because when you live in a dangerous neighborhood there's a good chance that some of these criminals might be lifelong friends or family members. On top of that, much like the drug business, music involves a lot of quick money and you need people who can help you watch your back.
furthermore, success in the music game depends on being able to take advantage of any opportunity that comes your way. Working a square job of 40 plus hours a day makes it difficult, if not impossible, to do this. Imagine getting a chance to rap on an ASAP Rocky track only to find out that the studio time is scheduled during your job and you can't get time off. As romantic as it is to say screw that job this track might not ever get released.
