Bill Laimbeer is heading back to the NBA.

The former Detroit Pistons center, who coached the WNBA's Detroit Shock to three titles, will join Kurt Rambis' staff with the Minnesota Timberwolves, a league source confirmed to ESPN. Former Kings coach Reggie Theus also will join Rambis' staff.

Laimbeer's hiring was first reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Laimbeer, who has never coached in the NBA, resigned as the Shock's coach and general manager in June.

Playing with the Pistons' "Bad Boys" teams in the late '80s, Laimbeer helped Detroit win back-to-back titles.

Kurt Rambis' staff?? Am I missing something here?

When the hell did McHale get fired?

It was long overdue, but it happened months ago. Both Rambis and Laimbeer are very good hires. I don't know how Reggie Theus is going to help. He didn't help Sac-Town. Plus, he was pretty much of a "shoot first, pass later, guard whenever" during his tenure in the NBA. A 'blue-colar type' he WAS NOT! And couldn't play 'D' worth a damn.

Yes, it was overdue, but it hadda be one of the quietest firings in history because I did not hear a peep about it until just now
