With a complex playing style that was nevertheless generous towards other musicians, the US musician was in a category all of his own

This one stings. I had no idea Jack was 83. Not only was he one of the greatest drummers who ever lived, but the brother was also an accomplished, classically trained pianist. He was a one of a kind talent and a really good brother who's going to be greatly missed.
