Question For The NBA Fans

No disrespect to the game, but Im not a basketball fan.
I don't "know" basketball like I "know" football and baseball,
so I can't tell when the talking heads are full of shit or not..

I have a question about Dirk on the Mavericks.

1) Does his play REALLY qualify him to be MVP of the league or is he another
case of "Great White Hype"?
2)What is the criteria for NBA MVP?

I remember last year during the finals, (I DO watch finals and championships of ANY sport, I dont care what it is.) they acted like this guy was the second coming of Jesus or some shit.

On ESPN radio today, caller after caller (white boys) said that just because his team lost, that doesn't mean he is not the MVP.
While at the same time saying not only was Dirk not the best player on the floor, he wasnt even the best player on his TEAM.

After a while it started to sound like spin. They even said some guy on the Warriors was "playing Dirk like he was back at Rucker Park", and thats the reason Dirk had a bad game.

I know Kobe for instance had a tremendous year (you cant frequent this board and NOT know it). How does he NOT get MVP? He had a rash of 50 point games if I'm not mistaken. LeBron? A.I?, Carmello? (I only know the "stars"). I'm sure there are more.

With (heard Charles Barkley quote this figure) 7-10 players in the NBA being non white, and 9-10 players "on the floor" being non white, how
does a white guy win MVP?

Last year I heard it was between Dirk and Steve Nash.

What gives?
Somebody lace ya boy up...

1) I think Dirk is in the MVP conversation, but he shouldn't win...there are many other players in the league that had a better year....

2) to be honest, everybody has a different definition of what an MVP is...the NBA doesn't mandate a clear policy on the matter either....they want the debate that's created because it brings publicity to the league...so nobody has the exact same criteria...

as for Dirk, homeboy is soft...he got exposed last year against Miami....and again this year....dude is Payton Manning (was) fragile...no heart...

MVP is supposed to mean most valuable player. Nobody knows if that means the best player in the league or really the most valuable to his team.

If its most valuable to his team, then Kobe, Paul Pierce, or Lebron should win it cuz without them, their teams dont have a chance.

If its just the best player in the league, it should be whoever is having the best year. I dont think Dirk should get it until he steps up his game in the playoffs and quit playing like shit in the post season.

The MVP award usually goes to the best player on the best NBA team (or one of the best teams) during the REGULAR SEASON regardless of what happens in the playoffs

So that would eliminate players like Kobe because their team was not one of the best in the NBA during the regular season

If the award simply went to the player with the highest scoring average or best numbers in the league then a lot more players on terrible teams would get consideration

Is he "Great white hype"??? Probably.
But he still arguably had one of the best REGULAR SEASONS this year

I don't understand how Dirk or Nash stay front runners for the MVP, when dudes like KOBE, LEBRON, CARMELLO, MCGRADY, WADE, AGENT 0, AI, B. DAVIS. THESE ARE THE REAL DUDES WE TUNE INTO WATCH, I'M NOT WATCHING THE MAVS TO SEE DIRK WHO HAD TWO GOOD LEGS AND COULDN'T GET HIS TEAM PAST A ONE LEGGED B.DAVIS. THE NBA IS TRYING IT'S HARDEST TO GET IT BACK TO BEING WHITE WASHED. DAVID STERN SHOULD JUST QUIT TRYING AND CHANGE THIS SHIT.

I think he is simply MVP because he is European and Stern is trying to solidy his brand even more with the european market. A writer for ESPN or some BBall site said Dirks stats were comparable to some players of previous years '90s 80s that did not even qualify them for talk about any MVP. He is in consideration because his team had a good year. they should really explain what the MVP means so everyone could accurately vote. To be honest I think the MVP should go to the best player on a team that if you took him out of the equation what would happen. If you took Nash off of the Suns they would be competing for the 8th seed point blank. If you took Kobe off then the lakers would have been thinking about the draft lottery in December. Taking Lebron off the Cavs forget about it. Taking Nowitski off, I honestly believe the mavs have enough talent to compete with any team in the League.

I think influence and importance should be key in determining the MVP. I mean it does stand for Most Valuable Player.

EXACTLY I DON'T CARE WHERE HE GOES THEY WILL NEVER FIND ANY WHITE EUROPEAN BALL PLAYER NICER THEN ANY BLACK DUDE THAT GREW UP PLAYING IN THE GHETTOS OF AMERICA ESPECIALLY NEW YORK THERES CATS IN NY PLAYING BALL TODAY THAT WOULD SCRAPE NASH, DIRK, OR ANY OTHER WHITE EUROPEAN DUDE.

YOU SEE THEY RAN OUT OF AMERICAN WHITE BALL PLAYERS  NOW THEY GOTTA RECRUIT OUTTA COUNTRY NEXT THEM NIGGAS WILL BE ON MARS TALKING SOME OTHER SHIT AND WE'LL BUST THEY ASS TOO.

MVP was supposed to be Gilbert Arenas, no question about that, but the NBA machine thinks otherwise.. Even Nash deserves it more than Dirk.. Dirk aint a baller, has never been a baller and will never be baller.. Y'all can sugar coat it all you want but he ain't worth shit....
