QUESTION FOR LADIES wit LOCS

My old lady trying to get LOCS but she got long permed hair. Now do she have to cut her hair and go natural before she can grow them or can she just do them from her permed long hair now.....you can pm or hit up in the thread

She cant grow locks from permed hair ... she will need to cut it off and start from scratch ... when you grow locks you HAVE to start from the roots ... so she would cut her hair low and let it grow out then start twisting it from when its short and maintain ... or if she is uncomfortable with having it so short at fist then she can just grow out the permed hair a bit then when her natural hair grows to a certain length she can cut off the permed hair and start to twist. But really cutting it all off and starting from scratch is how she will get the best results. I'm around alot of Caribbean and Rastafarians and this is how they grow theirs

word thanks i told her she going have to put in work she love my locs im at about shoulder length took me a year i told her i been putting in work

Yep she will have to cut it down to the new growth which is what I did in June....But I went and got my hair micro braided to let it grow out some more. I am getting one more set of micros next month, then busting out the new year with locs.

I envy women who make the big chop and start there locs w/o any insecurities!!!!!!!!!

My cuz just cut all hers off.

Some people cut two inches...let it grow...cut a little more off, until you cut all the permed hair off. That way it just looks like you have a new haircut but you aren't totally going without hair.


Once she does get her hair to her length for the dreds use some tiny black rubber bands to hold them together until it locks. Remember, twist clockwise. You can use beeswax or any other natural loc holder. If I can find the camera I'll put up mines. I put up a pic of my moms hair not too long ago...

She can get sisterlocks. You don't have to cut off permed hair for that. Eventually you will want to cut of the permed hair, but you don't have to right away.
