"Where de white women at"

The DLC (The Democratic Leadership Council), the Republicrat wing of the Democratic Party, which counts Hillary as a member in good standing chide other Democrats for wanting to get the hell out of Iraq. Any wonder why Rupert Murdock and the media want Hillary to win the nomination.

DLC’s Ford And From Echo O’Hanlon And Bush, Argue For A Long-Term ‘Military Presence’ In Iraq

At Ideas Primary today, former Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN) and Democratic Leadership Council founder Al From chastise Democrats and war critics for pushing for “immediate withdrawal” from Iraq, arguing instead for a “bipartisan agreement” to keep a “military presence in Iraq for the foreseeable future to guard our strategic interests in the region”:

Republicans are holding out for an illusory victory. Democrat rightly want to force a new direction, but they’re not going to get it if the only option they offer is immediate withdrawal. It’s clear the votes for immediate withdrawal are not there, and the resulting impasse will empower President Bush to maintain his same failed policy through the rest of his administration. […]

The key to a new course is to forge a bipartisan agreement in support of a small sustainable military presence in Iraq for the foreseeable future to guard our strategic interests in the region.

Though Ford and From are cloaking their argument in the language of “reducing and re-deploying our troops,” their policy prescriptions echo the positions of liberal hawks like Brookings’ Michael O’Hanlon and would set the stage for a long-term presence in Iraq for the U.S. military.

Additionally, their proposal flies in the face of public opinion. In a recent poll done for Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), “70 percent of registered voters” said “President Bush’s $200 billion Iraq war supplemental spending request should be rejected or conditioned on redeployment.” A strong majority of Iraqis want U.S. troops to withdraw as well.

In fact, Ford and From’s advice for congressional war critics sounds eerily familiar, almost like the advice President Bush says he is trying to give his potential successors: stay longer.

Thoughtone, you must be from the far-left wing of the democratic party? I read a comment by Vegas Guy in the "Schip" thread where he alluded to you as being some kind of democratic henchman. I thought he was off-base with that remark and I should have said so but I was waiting to see if he would develop or show proof of that argument. But, after this thread, maybe he has something.

Apparently you disagree with Harold Ford because he doesn't support all of your agenda. I can understand that because rarely will you find a politico that agrees with ALL of anyone's personal outlook. But, I think you were wrong for that cut at Harold (the caption under the picture above). Simply because he has a different opinion on a particular issue from you, you slam him in the same manner that his racist white senate opponent did in his Tennessee senate race ???

I am a registered independent. I have been for over 10 years. I don’t know how old you are but the current republican party has driven the political spectrum so far right, that anything in opposition appears to be “left”. I put that caption down because Harold Ford is now the head of the DLC. The DLC is the main stumbling block to change in today’s politics. He complained about the republican’s exploitation of his preference for white women in last years Tennessee senate race, yet he seems to prefer blonde white women. When the media made a big thing about Obama‘s mixed parentage, Harold Ford said his grandparents were white, I guess to connect with his white constituency. They weren’t 100% white as the southern definition would have it (high yellow). I could care less about his racial heritage, lord knows the slave master violated my grandparents, but he used that race card when it suited him, yet he comes off as a conservative democrat. People should prefer who they wish, but politicians playing both ends should be exposed.

Harold Ford Not Running For Senate: NY Post

Rep. Harold Ford (D-TN), who had been mulling a run for Senate in New York against appointed Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, has decided not to run.

The story was first reported by the New York Post. Afterwards, the New York Times released portions of an opinion piece that Ford wrote for the paper, to be run in its entirety tomorrow.

"I've examined this race in every possible way, and I keep returning to the same fundamental conclusion: If I run, the likely result would be a brutal and highly negative Democratic primary -- a primary where the winner emerges weakened and the Republican strengthened," Ford wrote. He continued: "I refuse to do anything that would help Republicans win a Senate seat in New York, and give the Senate majority to the Republicans."

Assemblyman Vito Lopez, who had previously indicated that he could have supported Ford, told the New York Post: "After giving it considerable thought and talking it over with his wife, he reached the conclusion that he would not be running, although he said he would like to remain active in the Democratic Party here."

Ford previously represented a House district in Tennessee, which was previously held by his father, from 1997-2007. He retired from the seat to make an unsuccessful bid for the United State Senate from Tennessee. Ford had been indicating that if he were to run against Gillibrand, it would have been from her right. This was especially ironic, since the original conventional wisdom after her appointment had been that Gillibrand might have faced a primary challenge from her left, which itself did not materialize.
