Stock markets plunge after Trump’s ‘Tariff Man’ tweet
America’s newest superhero is taking a beating.
Democratic politicians and late-night TV hosts unleashed an arsenal of snarky jokes following President Trump’s tweet
dubbing himself a “Tariff Man.”
“Tariff Man, the worst superhero ever, raises your taxes and ruins our economy,”
tweeted Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Meanwhile, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) referenced The Beatles’ song “Nowhere Man,”
tweeting, “He’s as blind as he can be. Just sees what he wants to see.”
In a series of tweets Tuesday, Trump warned that tougher tariffs could be on the horizon for China if Beijing doesn’t play ball on negotiating a deal with the US.
“China is supposed to start buying Agricultural product and more immediately. President Xi and I want this deal to happen, and it probably will. But if not remember… I am a Tariff Man,” he
tweeted.
The Dow
plummeted more than 800 points as doubts mounted about the US-China 90-day trade truce — but TV hosts had a field day.
“The superhero you never knew you needed,”
tweeted CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” along with a video titled “The Adventures of Tariff Man” — a spoof on the intro to the 1950s “Adventures of Superman.”
On “The Late Late Show,” James Corden
suggested Trump had spelled “Terrible” wrong.
“I think the Marvel franchise has expanded a little too much,” he joked.
