Males generally have 3 to 4 voice changes as we age. The first is around 16 or 17. For people that use their voice for entertainment the second voice change can be problematic which happens around 30.
Another voice changes happens in the 40's. With DMX screaming so much he could have developed nodules on his vocal chords over the years. But it sounds like he had another voice change which removed his ability to talk in his deep tone.
