Just seen it and rather liked it. It 'feels' very different to the Alien films and more like a lot of British sci-fi literature. Probably due to the presence of a number of British/European actors and a British director, but it is more thoughtful and grandiose than the other films.

Problem is its plot is a bit muddled and vague in places, perhaps deliberately so if more is to be revealed in sequels and yes, a couple of characters do absolutely fuck all. Oh, and if you haven't seen Alien it won't really make much sense at all, I suspect. Fun stuff though and it looks fantastic.

One of the good things about it is that whilst it ostensibly answers some questions, the answers themselves leave you with even bigger questions than you had originally.

I'll give it 7 out of 10

You're the wrong person to ask this, but to anyone else, does Idris' horrendous southern accent ruin all portions of the film where he has scene or dialogue? It sounds absolutely terrible in the clips i've seen.

OP, why would you suggest having to see the other Alien films considering this is a prequel of sorts?

it dont come out in the US til next Friday, so til then you'll be discussing this movie with French people and UK people.

 indeed, saw it, i'm a big fan of the Alien series, saw all 4 countless times, obviously some are better than others, as for Prometheus the movies looks great, fantastic photography, cinematography, costumes, sets, technology, etc... as far as the scenario, it is quite muddy

I think the first thing to say is that you should go into this movie not expecting the same kind of heart pumping impact Alien had, it doesn't break any new ground and pretty much follows the structure of Alien and every other Sci Fi discovery movie since.

What it does deliver is a good sci fi tale that has stunning visuals, a lovecraftian atmosphere and adds positively to the already in place mythos. It answers some questions and leaves others.

On the acting front Fassbender does a good job emulating what we know and Rapace is the heart, but Theron is vastly underused, Vickers is fairly bland and has no stand out scene and a lame demise. Idris Elba is solid as the ships captain but the rest of the support are throwaway and the guy playing Holloway is poor, although he wasn't helped by the dialogue he was given at times.

The film is engaging but I never found it thrilling, it was easy to read beat for beat. The world they land on is immersive though and the story has enough in it along with the visuals to keep you involved. However it doesn't reach a climax, it just goes where you expect it to.

The film is quite slow and then suddenly is in a rush to get to the ending, an ending that is partially satisfying but also lacking in a moment to truly give you that feeling of awe, it also has a couple of parts to it that don't quite work, one logically and the other due to lack of character development.

The final shot is a real doozy though but doesn't explain anything regarding Alien.

I'd say this is a good return to sci fi for Ridley, but more a safe and steady addition to his Alien film than the triumphant masterpiece some were hoping for.

6/10

The movie just leaves you open to questions and so many intepretations. It felt like it was setting you up for the sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed it and liked the pace. I think BGOL will love the movie because so much of whats discussed here about aliens and origin of species is there in the movie. i give it a 7/10

I've seen it... At first i thought of it a bootleg Aliens movie... But its truly not even though they used some elements from it... But it does raise questions and irritation with their dialogue... And the stupid sentiment in the end... Truly by that time... Fuck a 'why'

i dont know what yall watched but to me that was a great movie.i mean compared to alot of sci fi movies out this was that best one yet..now i will say it will leave you open to questions but other then that ill give it a 8 1/2 out of 10..i want to ask a question about a part in the movie but afraid to because of some of the sissy dudes on bgol talking that ban for spoilering the movie.so the ones that seen it let me know if its cool to ask the question..thanks.

there is no santa but I respect the willingness to wait for it.

Saw the 12:01 last night. The movie has a slow build up. But overall you cannot deny the religious/philosophical tones in this movie and leaves you discussing way after you walk out the theater.

Prometheus as a whole movie has many deep thought provoking premises that are mind blowing once contemplated. The execution could have been a little better but overall it's a good movie.

If you are a sci-fi nut. Go see the movie.

Are there spoiler tags in here?

One scene I truly enjoyed cause I like sci-fi horror shit like that. (folks who have seen it know what part that is)

The rest of the movie just looked good on screen.

Starting from the original premise of being invited in the first place, didn't make sense.

I like thought provoking. I'll check it out.

I'm gonna speak in every thread about the movie. It was good, definitely for the fans of the original Alien flicks. For the people that are saying that its plot is full of holes and it doesn't make sense, its because a lot of the mainstream audience is becoming used to spoonfed storylines that don't encourage thinking and imaginative concepts. Every little twist and turn or unexplained nuance has to have a culminating scene to explain the movie. For the simple fact that human mythologies, creationism, anthropology, religion, and astrology plays a huge part of the concept of the movie, if the viewer doesn't have a basic knowledge and opinion of these ideas, then I think the brilliance of the movie is lost on them. Personally, this movie encouraged some AWESOME discussions with my own 16 year old son, who absolutely loved the movie BTW...

Everything you said. While I did complain a bit about the execution in another thread. I think people are expecting an "Alien" film with a central antagonist. This film has multiple antagonists all with their own motivations.

The movie is more a series of events that culminate into a film vs. a traditional linear climactic movie experience. If you pay attention to all of the films philosophical questions then the move is pretty good.

I thought it was a good movie.

After what that "Engineer" did to David, Weyland & crew, why does Shaw think she will get an answer from any of them? It didn't even respond to David after he spoke it's language; it looked at and reacted to them as if they were completely insignificant.

Would Shaw survive for even a second if she arrived at the "Engineers" planet? Even if she did survive, wouldn't she just be seen as a guinea pig to them? A disposable test subject?

If there were to be a sequel, that shit must be addressed.

Why would they created something just to destroy it?

Like David's mirror response to Holloway about why humans created androids--> maybe the "Engineers" created humans just because they could.

I more intrigued about the "Engineers" than I am of the Xenomorph at the end.

I thought it was a good film. It even got me looking at the Alien film to cross check certain elements. Certainly answered a few questions since the 'Aliens' series of films came out.

People do it all the time.

People would, yes.

But for a race as advanced as the "Engineers", one would assume that they would have more wisdom than the beings they created.

Why would they stoop to the level of humans?

Are they so advanced that they would view humans as objects only? Toys?

Maybe we got it from them.

I call bullshit. What are the deep religious/philosophical overtones? Granted, the movie implies that God didn't create us, instead some nihilistic Aliens, who were remarkably Aryan, "engineered" humanity. But who created them? And why, in the end, did they try to destroy humanity? The movie fails to be deep because it didn't even attempt to answer those, and too many other, questions.

Sci-fi nuts will probably like this movie because they have to--i.e., just because of the genre. Others, like me, however, will dislike like it because it feels incomplete. The movie introduced the big questions in life--i.e., why are we here, who made us--that we all, at one point, or another, ask ourselves, but didn't attempt to answer them. But for the visual spectacle it produced, this movie was terrible.

Just finished watching that bullshit ass movie. The captain summed it up they were smart enough to go to other planets to create weapons/new life maybe the went to earth made humans as a host for their weapons (face aliens).
