Prince - Nothing Compares 2 U (Original Version)

Don't start.
Dude's footwork was crazy.
Just glad to see and know that there is abetter quality and color of that basement footage, and there was a better version of the original song sound quality.
Sinead's is the best though.

I believe this version was the first released.

The Family is a 1985 album released on Prince's Paisley Park Records label by the band of the same name. The album consists of eight Minneapolis sound tracks but with a funk-jazz slant; two of the tracks are instrumentals, and three are ballads. A single was released for "The Screams of Passion", a modest hit that was re-released in 1996 on the Girl 6 soundtrack. A promo version of "High Fashion" was distributed. "Nothing Compares 2 U", an emotional ballad, became more widely known five years later when a cover by Sinéad O'Connor was released as a single to worldwide success.

The album was released on vinyl; following the success of O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" a CD version of the album was released in Japan and Germany/Europe.

Alternate recordings of several of the songs from the project featuring Prince on vocals were recorded, but most remain in his vault at Paisley Park Studios. Prince's original 1984 studio recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was not officially released until 2018, when it was issued as a single by Warner Bros. Records in conjunction with his estate.

Where is the clip of the Basketball player saying "practice ? who needs practice? "

Without the video that went with it, I don't think Sinead's version would have so much love. Not to mention all the old school auto tune type effects they put on her vocal track. I wish the Rosie Gaines version had been recorded in a studio instead of the live version that we have. Even still, I remember about 12 years ago rolling around with a bunch of co-workers late at night half drunk and acting a fool and the Rosie Gaines version came on and everybody just went silent while it was playing. At the end one my co-workers was crying and another one was like "That's a fucking beautiful song".

RIP Rosie

Why you say RIP Rosie? She is alive.

Peace,

Genius. My all time favorite artist.

Saturday is the 2 year anniversary of his death. :smh:

It's as if he was an amalgamation of all the greats that came before him. He could perform, sing, dance, play multiple genres, and play multiple instruments.
Maybe I'm tripping, but his passing leads me to believe that this may be it for mankind. There's nobody to replace him. It's as if the universe gave us the best ever and once he was gone, That's it. I hope I'm wrong, but sometimes I feel that we aren't getting anymore greats. MJ, James, Maurice White, and Marvin are all gone. Stevie and George Clinton are aging. Who's left to take his spot???

The reason my musical tastes are so eclectic is because of Prince. There won’t ever be another one like him.

And I hope you’re wrong about there not being any more greats coming, but it definitely feels that way.

Peace,

I've been keeping my eye out for cats who could make a legitimate claim to the musical throne that Prince left vacant.

D'Angelo was the first cat I thought could make a legit claim, the musicianship and songwriting is there but his pace and bad habits probably eliminate him serious consideration.

Martin Luther (McCoy) former guitarist for The Roots made a big splash with his 2004 LP Rebel Soul Music, but he quickly fell off the musical map after that.

Van Hunt is an intriguing candidate, capable lead man, multi instrumentalist and solid songwriter. Just hasn't been able to break through to popular appeal

The main thing these cats lack is Band leader aspect that Prince and James Brown really showcased.

Who else is out there ?

Man, it’s a very short list.

I think another factor is that talent is being siphoned off by hip hop. There just isn’t as much of an emphasis on instrumentation as in years past.
