Let me say this, I've followed Stephanie since she first appeared on Broadway in NYC in the 70s. Pound for pound there never was nor will there ever be another entertainer on her level. Not even Aretha during her heyday.
As for Stephanie Mills doing Home, I can't see anyone even trying to make it theirs. Home belongs to Stephanie forever. Oh sure others will sing it but no one will ever own it but Stephanie.
It was good seeing this performance again, Nice drop.

She's my favorite singer of all time. I've had arguments with people who say Diana Ross sang Home better than Stephanie
some even say Whitney sang it better. When I hear that I just wanna slap the hell out of them.

Well younger people all have this flawed view that the world didn't start until they arrived. They must be taught there's a difference in "world and their world."
We see the same thing in basketball. Michael Jordan he won 6 rings, he's "the" GOAT. NOPE! He's one of the GOAT. Bill Russell won 11 rings he gets no recognition. Michael Jordan is only one of the GOAT.
As for this song Home, younger people have little to no clue on what's soulful. Diana and Whitney both had nice voices but neither sang from their soul. Diana once when she sang "Missing You." IMO the only song she ever sang from her heart. Whitney had that voice but her music lacked that soulful vibe.
BTW I just went to YouTube and watched both Diana and Whitney sing Home. (notice I didn't post them) To even mention them two in the same musical universe as Stephanie is blasphemous. Watching those videos was like watching water dry.
Diana wishes she was half the singer Stephanie was. People went to see the Wiz because of Stephanie everyone wanted to see and hear Stephanie sing Home. I know I saw it twice.
