‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ SiriusXM parting ways: ‘Never made an offer’
By
Joseph Staszewski and

“The Pat McAfee Show” will be looking for a new radio home.
McAfee told The Post that the show’s time at SiriusXM is over after the network “never made an offer to continue our partnership” and there are “no ill feelings” between the two.
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo broke the news of the split, saying McAfee and SiriusXM parted ways amicably, according to Sport Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina on Monday.
McAfee’s show, which has become a regular home for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, has been broadcast on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio from noon-3 p.m. since September 2020 while also being streamed on YouTube. It’s become a massive hit as the 35-year-old McAfee, a former Colts punter turned media darling, signed a $120 million deal with FanDuel Sportsbook last December to sponsor the show. McAfee called it a great two-year run.

“Sirius doesn’t provide any information on who/if anybody listens, so all of our business agreements with our other fantastic partners has been done strictly off of our YouTube and social media presences so it legitimately affects nothing other than we won’t be able to be listened to by whomever was potentially listening on SiriusXM,” McAfee told The Post.

“I have heard from some of our Sirius Listeners today on Social and in our YouTube comments, I’m very grateful for those that listened to us on XM. I took a lot of pride in being a host who could hopefully paint a picture for those who couldn’t watch what was happening. I have no clue how many folks listened on Sirius but I appreciate them all for taking a chance on us. We’ll continue to move forward and hopefully continue creating a product worth consuming.”
While McAfee told The Post they have spoken to a few places about housing that audio-only version of the show, which only was 5 percent of the McAfee Show revenue while it was on SiriusXM, his partnership with FanDuel could provide at least one potential avenue. The FanDuel Group announced last week its intent to launch the FanDuel TV network and the OTT platform FanDuel+ in September. McAfee’s PMI Network will be producing content for the FanDuel network.

“Find where you’re celebrated… not where you’re tolerated,” McAfee tweeted. “Makes life A LOT more fulfilling.”

McAfee, a fast-rising media personality, already has plenty on his plate. It was announced this month he is teaming up with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Production to be part of an ESPN2 simulcast of six games during the college football season and in July he agreed to a multiyear extension with WWE, where he does commentary on “Friday Night SmackDown” on Fox and is a part-time wrestler.

Pat McAfee saw the press clippings.

Earlier Wednesday, The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that McAfee could walk away in the middle of his four-year, $120 million endorsement deal with FanDuel.

On his program, prior to interviewing Aaron Rodgers, McAfee segued from talking about a different Post story – about Mike Greenberg’s wife Stacy’s documentation of the ESPN talent’s obsession over the Jets landing Rodgers – to discussing Marchand’s column.

“There was an article about us in the New York Post as well this morning,” McAfee said.

“I got a lot going on in my life. I got a baby girl on the way. This past season there was so much stuff off the show that had to be dealt with and handled.”

“There comes some problems with all that too — not problems, but obstacles,” he said.

“What it comes with is a lot of busy work, almost, like time, time, time, time, time checked out from life [outside of work], almost.”

He spoke again about the baby that is due in the coming months.

“I never had visions or thoughts that I would be a father,” he said. “Because I always said that if I wanted to have a child, I would want to have generational wealth, because I wouldn’t want my child to have any of the stresses or anything that that potentially brings into your life.”

He acknowledged that life with a lot of money is “not perfect” and that there are a “a lot of new problems,” but that he’d previously thought he would need to work his whole life to survive and that would be his “excuse” to avoid fatherhood and be alone.

However, he said, he met his wife, Samantha, who “would be the greatest mom of all-time.”

He mentioned the miscarriages that his wife previously suffered, and how those impacted his perspective.

“Every time I’ve fallen in love with the idea that I’m gonna be able to shape a human, to help shape society, hopefully, but to do that you’ve got to be around. You’ve got to be present,” he said.

“So in an effort to make my life a lot easier, I’m exploring the options of maybe joining a network or a family or a community that can handle a lot of the things that we’re running into at this stage.”

He said he was “very thankful” for everything he has done with FanDuel, but that they “do not have a network that would alleviate a lot of the issues that we are currently [facing]. They’ve been very understanding with us.”

He then acknowledged FanDuel TV, the television channel the sportsbook recently created, but noted that they didn’t have the infrastructure to “alleviate a lot of the issues” and administrative tasks a bigger network would be able to handle.

McAfee has been juggling his show with ESPN and/or WWE responsibilities, and reiterated that he wants to carve some time out for his family going forward.

“It would nice to maybe live just a little bit of a life,” he said.

“There’s a chance that the FanDuel relationship could jeopardize an opportunity somewhere else, [but there’s also] there’s a chance that we end up somewhere and FanDuel is the thing.”

He emphasized that regardless of what happens, his show will not be paywalled and it will be available on YouTube.

“The show will always be free,” he said. “YouTube will still cook … the people that watch, I would never want to f—king offend you.”

Pat McAfee could walk away from $120 million-plus FanDuel deal
By Andrew Marchand
March 15, 2023 9:11am Updated

Pat McAFEE’S show has been the center of the sports world due to Aaron Rodgers’ guest spots on the program, but there is an equally intriguing ongoing story involving McAfee’s future.

The Post has learned that McAfee may walk away from his four-year, $120 million-plus endorsement deal with FanDuel.

He is in the second year of the deal, which pays him more than $30 million a year.

McAfee has rocketed to sports media success by doing it his way: first by retiring as a Pro Bowl punter to join Barstool Sports, then by leaving Barstool to strike out on his own.

If he were to walk away from his deal with FanDuel, it might be another level of gutsy.

That said, it appears McAfee will only make the jump if he knows where he is landing.

McAfee has continually bet on himself, and won, which means, first and foremost, he’s going to trust his own instincts and not others’.

It is definitely “Up to Something” season, which is the on-air phrase McAfee uses when he is talking about new deals. He has been saying it recently on his program.

And it could be big.

McAfee has had talks with other entities, including Amazon, according to sources.

Another possibility could be Google/YouTube, which just did a big deal for “NFL Sunday Ticket.”

Apple and McAfee don’t feel like a fit, but that probably can’t be entirely ruled out.

Could a company such as Fanatics eventually emerge as a wild card?

There could be more traditional players, too.

McAfee is relentless in his media career, but he is also restless.

In recent weeks, he eliminated the FanDuel emblem from his show.

The sponsorship logo had been watermarked throughout his entire program in the upper-right corner.

In a series of direct messages with The Post last week, he was elusive about what is going on with FanDuel, though he said there is no rift.

During the Super Bowl, McAfee was noticeably absent from FanDuel’s ad that featured Rob Gronkowski and McAfee’s former teammate, Adam Vinatieri attempting a live field goal to win $10 million for customers.

As FanDuel’s biggest star and a former kicker/punter, McAfee would have seemed like a natural fit for such an ad.

When asked if he was disappointed about being excluded from the Super Bowl spot, McAfee said, “No sir.”

As for FanDuel, a spokesman for the sports gambling platform declined to directly address its missing emblem on McAfee’s show.

“We really value our relationship with Pat and we are always evaluating how to work to engage his audience,” the FanDuel spokesman said.

McAfee, 35, has had a whirlwind existence that has led him to the center of the sports media world after he walked away from the Colts in 2017 and the final two years of contract that was set to yield him around $6 million.

It is not only Rodgers’ weekly paid appearances, but the energy that McAfee, A.J. Hawk and his team bring to the show.

It is why so many entities have lined up to work with McAfee.

The idea of partnering with a network, according to sources, potentially could allow McAfee to stay with FanDuel or find a new gambling partner.

But it feels as if McAfee may want to simplify and possibly pare down his responsibilities, because it is more complicated than just turning on the mics for three hours.

Besides his daily show, McAfee and his wife are having their first daughter in a couple of months.

He’s also being sued by Brett Favre for defamation.

Plus, while running a daily show is fun and comes with freedoms, it also includes all the headaches of owning a business.

McAfee doesn’t just do the daily talk show either.

Aaron Rodgers made an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on March 15, 2023, to discuss his football future.

YouTube
He worked WWE’s “Friday Night Smackdown” on Fox before moving to ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturdays this fall.

Aside from a Royal Rumble appearance, he hasn’t returned yet to WWE since the college football season ended.

It is a lot of traveling, and even for someone with McAfee’s energy, that has to wear on him.

McAfee also has done college football “Manningcasts” for Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions.

He has a multiyear deal with ESPN, according to sources.

McAfee has left deals early with Barstool, DAZN and Westwood One, and he elected not to renew with SiriusXM last year.

An early exit from his deal with FanDuel would be another level.

Though McAfee wouldn’t say what is going on with FanDuel, sources said FanDuel executives have been supportive as McAfee explores what is next for him and the company.

It is definitely “Up to Something” season for McAfee. He is daring — the question is, how daring?

“[There are] a lot of moving pieces right now,” McAfee, who reps himself, said during our direct messages last week.

What do you think? Post a comment.
“Not exactly sure where it all ends up. No beef, all love with FD [and you]. Just trying to make my show and life easier. I’ll have a lot more info and direction late next week probably.”

I've never got the MAGA vibe from Pat Mac personally, but then again, i dont listen to him that often. He seems like a good dude and doing what he's doing now, I would call him the Joe Rogan sports media, just continuing betting on himself and there's probably a list a mile long of people that want to get on his show.

BTW, @playahaitian I wonder how Bo would do on his show...lol
