I think you'll enjoy the video I just watched at www.aclu.org/pizza about Pizza and privacy.

It shows what will happen if we keep moving towards a surveillance society, where the government and corporations aggressively collect information about our personal life and our habits. It starts with a national ID... imagine where it ends!

whats scary is how some of these things slip through congress and gets passed by the time the public knows of it its already too late.:smh:

Wow.

I know that in the UK, the government were thinking of implementing a national ID card database on which everyone must carry with them at all time. There was a lot of resentment to this.

Also from 2009 I think, all new passports here in the UK will have your dna attached to it as well.

Its only a matter of time before this start in the US and elsewhere.

While the video takes a humorous look at ordering a pizza, imagine where it could lead (and is already heading) . . .

Applying for a job or an apartment and all your information (financial, legal , medical, etc,.) is accessible. You are turned down for the job because of that minor weed possession bust or turnstile jumping ticket you got when you were 15. Denied a job because they already know you may have a pre-existing heart condition or are on treatment for high blood pressure or diabetes and they do not want to pay for your insurance. :smh:

You cannot get an apartment or home because they know you were a bit behind in your bills 10 years ago when you had a lot of expenses due to an emergency in your family -- Or they know that you only have X amount of money in the bank/investments. :smh:

I think that in the US they are going to have microchips embedded in the passports soon. NYS was considering something similar for Drivers' Licenses. :smh:

I wonder if ppl focus too my on the national id. i remember being at the ins office for
a renewal of my work permit, before my green card. i didn't have some documents.
i had been there since 8am and got to the window around 2pm. dude probably felt
sorry for me. he said hold on. went away for 5 mins and came back with copies of
the documents i was missing.

i believe the national id just makes the info more accessible to others. the government
and its related agency already have their files on you or can get it very easily.

.

I remember when the issue of ID cards were first discussed here in the UK, the government argument was that it would help deter terrorism etc. The counter argument was that there were countries e.g Spain which did have national ID cards but that didn't stop the bombings that took place over there.

Also in the UK there were concearns about the safety of such information in databases. A few months back over 25 million customer's national insurance numbers and bank details were lost by a courier...
