Phonte on Kanye's RUNAWAY

I came out of that shit the same way. Visually I thought it was impressive. I can't even say if it sucked or if its a mess because I don't really understand what Kanye was trying to do with it. Visually it looked damn good. I don't really get the story or the purpose. Its funny. I say the same shit about Belly which Hype Williams wrote and direct and he wrote this shit by Kanye as well. Maybe Hype just needs to stick to directing.

This is also a matter of different personality types manifested in a creative capacity (Myers Briggs, INTP, INFP etc). I "get" where Kanye was comming from, keep in mind that Kanye is also a visual artist (as an INTP/INFP). I think Phonte is ok at best, he seem more like a practical kinda artist instead of creative extremes and tangents.

Visionaries vs pragmatists....

if you get all that.... that people have different perspectives...

then why the "hater" label? And couldn't that be applied to YOU, since you think Phonte is "ok at best"? Is that your opinion, or HATE?

I liked it. I saw more of the bird representing Kanye. Kanye not playing himself but just a part of the world that he crashed into. I really liked it.

Im an INFP/INTP myself and found that shit to be weird, and a little too reliant on poorly executed symbolism. I laughed out loud when the guy at the dinner table asked, "Do you know your girlfriend is a bird?"

peace

Why would I even wanna take time out to take that shit in if I feel EXACTLY what he said @ 1:02 b4 hand?

Get$ as somebody's gon pay for it just like GraffittiBridge which was convenieently missed too

peace

no one missed that. Theres no way anybody coulda missed that. It came down like a fucking hammer.

No one needs it explained anymore. The end result is "do you LIKE it?"

FOH with all that "it's too deep for people too understand shit"

I was implying it's a little bit of both.

That Kanye movie was a tremendous effort. Most artist will never have access to tremendous resources like that to foster their OWN vision.:smh: It made me realize how much I'm slacking creatively I have fellow artists/friends told me similar things and seen similar statements from artist on Facebook.

yea i hate that attitude. the only time it applies is if someone is saying ignorant things about something but if its just saying they dont like it then thats fine

me it was cool and i got everything it represented

Hahaha....I don't wanna derail this nigga's thread but...ain't nothing average or just okay about Phonte as an emcee.

It's a tremendous piece of shit from a self absorbed lunatic. Whose "OWN vision" seems to be clouded by some type of narcotic.

He's good, I mean...

I never like Little Brother because was kinda like "been there done that" as far as that hip hop sound was concerned. For what it's worth I bought all 3 foreign exchange cd's.:D I prefer his singing to rapping and I seen em live and lol'ed a lot. I think his true genus is in comedy, cause he is funny as fuck. Just my taste, he just ok as a rapper to me.:dunno:

To put this into perspective, I used to be big fans of Pharohe Monch, Q-TIP, Nas Black thought, Malik B, Guru, Saffir, Ras Kass and cats of similar ilk.:dunno: My tastes nowadays leans more towards dance music and electronica, I'm kind of a music snob I must admit.

It's all good bro... different strokes. I think Phonte is a sick emcee.... smart and knows how to flow. I prefer his rappin to his singing.... although he's obviously a decent singer. FE are legendary

But yeah... dude is a comedian for real.

:smh::smh::smh:
we need more haters in hip hop!!!

I liked it and continue to like it as i watched it again the other day.
As for phonte's views, Didn't he say Lil wayne was the hottest rapper?

Now granted, hating does exist. I don't like Kobe Bryant, never have, never will... I tried to justify it, and pretend I have good reasons for it, but truth be told... I don't.. I just have a visceral reaction to whenever I see him. I hopes he trips down the stairs....of the Washington Monument.

This explains it!

I'm not a big sports fan but Kobe is kool with me.

no. no he didn't. at all. And what would that have to do with him not liking something that you did?

The fact that it's still being discussed and debated is in large part validity in itself.

not really. It's more of a testament to how big he is as an artist.

Big artists put out shitty work all the time.

If Fahamou Pecou woulda put it out, it wouldn't be talked about today.

Who's Fahamou Pecou?

That's my point.

So IYO without the Kanye brand no one would have given a shit?

zaklee. And no one will give a shit by the time he puts out an album.

THRILLER on the other hand- KO'd the planet
PURPLE RAIN- Still a classic

There are a few others but you get the point. It's only been a couple days.

This is more (like Phonte said) Kanye's UNDER THE CHERRY MOON- I think Tay said GRAFFITTI BRIDGE- both are forgettable, and even Prince wouldn't bring em up.

To me it's really just a lot of money thrown around. Anything expensive by a rich and popular artist will get a look for a few. Especially one as good as Kanye.

I'm sure their are billions of ambitious projects by lesser or unknown artists, or artists who don't put hot beats behind their work that don't muck up symbolism, and for less money. We don't know them, and we don't care, so we aint talkin about it.
