Philippines Police 'Torture' VIDEO

A cell-phone video, showing a suspected robber screaming in pain as an alleged police chief yanks on a rope tied to the victim's genitals, has sparked outrage in the Philippines.

This is not the first time police in the country have been criticized for brutality, but the public has not before seen such an incident caught on tape.

It is unclear when the tape was shot, but a local television station broadcast it on Wednesday.

The newly elected government government in Manila, the capital, has relieved 11 officers from duty and is investigating.

Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas reports from Manila.

if u know that cats are getting tortured for minor offenses why are you still out there breaking the law?

lmao. are you serious? if the country is ranked as thee worst and corrupt country in the world im going to presume some of the citizens are going to be tortured just to send a message to any future troublemakers.

:confused::confused:

can you comprehend his question?

- he was wondering if citizens over there *KNOW* they are gonna get tortured, then why do that dumb shit??

and i'm sure this isn't the first time they've done this to someone....

cops are making up the rules as they go, anything you do can be construed as illegal and you get to test out the first generation rabbit.

- eh, i feel you but i doubt this is a new phenomena over there...

those people know whassup but they commit those crimes anyway (further proof there is no real deterrent to crime, but thats another discussion)...

and then they run up on the human rights commissioner and ask her about it, cmon man!:lol:

unlike you im working under the impression that that guy didnt commit the crime.

If you know the police over there are so corrupt, why are you assuming that the people in the video are guilty/committed crimes in the first place?

i won't condone it but at the same time if this shit was happening it might cut back on the petty crimes and even some major ones

Basic human rights aside though, here's the flaw. Yanking on somebody's nuts with a rope for a couple hours will most likely get a lot of false confessions. I'm pretty sure everyone, even those that don't mind harsh treatment of suspects, will admit that lots of people get picked up for crimes they didn't commit, right? I mean that's just a fact, and it's unavoidable... but that's what fair treatment and a fair trial (however imperfect) can counterbalance... but when you got cops pulling peoples balls and worse, there are undoubtably going to be people saying "I did it" just to make it stop. When that happens, not only are you gonna have innocent people going to prison, but you're gonna have the guilty people out there scott free to rob, rape, steal, murder, etc. They sure as heck ain't gonna stop doing what they're doing.

Good points all around, but I also suspect some folks going on some, "Maybe kinda harsh, but... (insert bullshit reason where something like this could be considered justifiable)"-tip would scratch that immediately if that was a fellow brother in that video.

It's important to call inhumane behavior out in ALL instances. No exceptions.
