Phil Jackson: Carmelo Anthony 'better off somewhere else'

Phil Jackson indicated that the New York Knicks will continue to explore trade options for Carmelo Anthony, saying that the All-Star forward "would be better off somewhere else."

Jackson addressed reporters Friday, two days after the Knicks completed their fourth consecutive losing season. New York went 31-51, falling well short of preseason expectations bolstered by the team's offseason additions of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah.

"We've not been able to win with [Anthony] on the court at this time," Jackson said. "I think the direction with our team is that he's a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship."

Anthony, 32, was the subject of rampant trade speculation throughout the season, prompting the 10-time All-Star to personally tell Jackson at one point that he wanted to remain with the Knicks and would not waive his no-trade clause.

Anthony said Wednesday that he'd "love" to return to the Knicks but wanted the team to make a commitment to winning immediately. Anthony has said in the past that if the Knicks presented him with a trade proposal, he would listen.

Sources told ESPN earlier this week that Anthony was "leaning strongly" toward waiving his no-trade clause if the Knicks presented him with an amenable destination.

ESPN's Ian Begley contributed to this report.

:smh:

wow...

could ANY other GM say this publicly about a future Hall of Fame player?

ANY???

White or Black...who else could say this without MASSIVE blowback?

Knicks are fucking joke!! Why would any great player want to play for that organization? 2 more years and then Phil will be gone. Hopefully by then we can be heading back to just making the playoffs smh

what's gonna be frustrating is jackson is gonna do all this talking and still not get shit done re: a trade...he's basically just gonna slander melo for another 2 years

it's like he's blaming melo for his own ineptitude

Knicks re-upped a dude that wants you gone. That should tell you all you need to know about how the organization feels about you. GM basically called you old and slow as well. Melo, they don't want you dawg.

All the fuck he's done is lose his woman and then lose games make wrong moves hire broken down dude who got injured while being injured and when he comes back is going to be suspended for popping drugs

and fielding a squad that was not competitive because of the players and the coach
knicks literally had 2 good players. 2. 2 fucking good players. the rest were serviceable at best an hornacek is trash as a coach.

and he talking bout WE haven't won with him
cac
Melo is the last person to win a playoff series for that shitty ass franchise since Patrick Ewing was there
WE
Melo done took them old ass dudes he had to the 2nd round and he showed up every single playoff series he had there with them knicks

YOU haven't done shit.
they can't win with YOU.

It's obvious that the relationship is dead
But after seeing the way Anthony has been treated
Why would any free agent ever want to go to New York while Jackson is there?
Or as long as Dolan is owning the team.
